Hughey as clerk at the postofRce. Walter Brown of the 5th regi ment at Macon, spent the week end here with home folks. Miss Elenor Atkinson left Fri day for Montezuma, where she will teach this year. Mrs. W. J. Hall of Villa Rica, spent Friday of last week here with her son, H. G. Hall. /Miss Hattie Houseworth left "this week for Monroe where she will attend school this year. Mr. and Mrs, Lamar Cooper are visiting their parents, Judge and Mrs. VV. T. Cooper. Miss Lillian Dake is visiting Mrs. Arthur DeLaPerriere at Hose h ton. Mr, and Mrs, W. L. Roberts of Sewanee, spent the week end here with relatives and friends, Miss Inez Durham left Satur day for Carrollton, where Jshe will teach. Miss Ruth Selman is visiting V friends in Dublin and Wrights ville. Mrs. G. W. Jones and Miss Opal Duncan spent the week end at Warm Springs. Miss Lottie Duncan has re turned from a pleasant visit with Lome folks at Rome. Rev. and Mrs. W. C. Huckaby and Miss Annie Summers of Birmingham, are spending seve;- nldays here with T. P. Huckaby. , Dr. G, H. Turner, who was recently commissioned a first Lieutenant, was called to Ft. Oglethrope this week. Mrs. Frederick Wilson has just returned from Virginia, after having a most delightful visit for a month. Mr. and Mrs. J. L. Perkins / and Misses Alline Burton, Lottie and Ava Duncan were among those spending Monday in Atlan ta. Friends here will be interested in knowing that Mr. and Mrs. J, E. Morris of Columbia, S. C., announce the birth of a daughter last Sunday. Mr. and Mrs. J. Frank Smith and - sons, Francis and David Barry, of Milton, Fla,, are visit ing their mother, Mrs. Ellen D. Smith. Douglas county’s first select men left Thursday for the can- I tonment, accompanied by Sheriff Baggett. They were: C. C. Eskew, W. H. Barron, B. H. McLarty and S. A. Garrett. Rev. J. B, Tallent of Chatta nooga, will preach at the Bap ' tisfc church next Sunday morn ing and night. All members are especially urged to come out and hear him. Circle, Mr. guests of Mr. and Mrs, J, E. We failed to report last week the first open boll of cotton for the season brought to our office The first was brought on Friday, Aug. 24, from the crop of Tucker Shropshire, a colored farmer. Another was brought on Mon day, Aug. 27th, by F. M. Giles. The W. C. T. U. held a meet ing at the home of Mrs. j. E. Phillips Thursday morning com- plimentory to the soldier boys who were leaving for service. Quite a number of both men and women were present.
