This is rather a sad Christmas
for many peop’e but wo wish
you all as "Merry a Christmas”
as circumstances will allow.
The man who criticises his
government in a crisis like this
is as much an enemy as the
Kaiser himself.
Food may be high in price,
taxes of all kinds may be raised
a little higher here and there,
but we should not worry or
grumble, as it is all for the beat,
and we should be willing to help
the government stand up for our
rights as a liberty loving nation.
On account of coal shortage
schools are being suspended
nearly everywhere. Teachersand
pupils alike are in danger of
pneumonia, the work is ham
pered, and we suggest to our
local board that a suspension
during January would be a wise
move.

You’ve all seen the shops in every
city where fifty-fifty is the policy.
Fifty per - unt for the clothing and
fifty per cent for the name. That’s
some business.
I don’t do that here and I am just,]
a3 proud of everything I show, such#
as overcoats, suits, neckwear,

Dry Nation
Congress has voted overwhelm
ingly in favor of national prohi
bition and it now remains for the
various state|legislatures to ratify
the measure to make the United
States as ‘‘Bone Dry” as the
Sahara desert.
According to the terms of the
bill as passed by congress the
states have seven years to ratify
it, and it is predicted by framers
of the measure that three years
will be sufficient.
We are delighted with the
action of congress and states
cannot ratify too soon to suit us.
