NEEDED IN COUNTY
After working with farmers in all
sections of the county for six’months,
I am thoroughly convinced that ther
is only one obsticie that prevents
Douglas county farmers from being
well supplied with fruit direct from
their own fars the year round, and
that obsticie is the lack of proper care
of the orcharddds.
During the fall and winter, I have
inspected dozens of orchardds, and in
almost every case the fruit trees were
found to be infected with the scale>

Government officials, from President
Wilson and Vice-President Marshall
down, have insisted that it must be

Caminetti says that 6,000 of these are
to be shipped hack to Europe at once.
It appears likely, from official infor

merica for Americans.

old-fashioned American way that was

our forefathers, who laid stone upon

Vice-President Marshall has issued
a creed of Americanism, and it is
good stuff. He assumes that ours is
the best Government ever formed on
earth, and that it should be preserved

us by our fathers.
Ole Hanson, the Mayor of Seattle,
has shown how a revolution started

handled. Europeanism has its virtues

„ what I want to get you to think
about, and in order that you might
know more about this insevt, I am
going to give you a description of it
During the dormat season of the
trees the presence of scale is verry
easily recognised by the small gray
ish scales found sticking to the bark.
They are about the size of the head
of a common pin.
Take the point of a knife and raise
the scale. Underneath there will be
found the small yellow insect. In
cases where the scale is very bad if
the twigs are scraped, yellowish, gre
asy liquid appears from the mashing
of the insects beneath the scales.
During the summer season the scale
can be detected, both from the grey
ish, scurfy appearance of the twigs
ant the fact that the young yelow in
sects can also be seen sticking to the
bark on the young twiggs, or craw
ling around on them.
I belitve that the scale can be class
ed s the greatest enemy we have to
the orchard, dut this insect is held
in check to a certain degree by the
fact that it has many natural ene
mies. Were it not for this fact far
mers would have much more trouble
with the scale than they have. Ch

Bolshevism is Europeanism.
The American soldier returning
from a foreign war against autocracy
can hardly be pleased to find his own
country honeycombed with the strange
delusions that he found in Europe.
This soldier sympathized in a measure
with the people who were groping for
something better than kings, emper
ors, queens and princes, have supplied
in the last two thousand years. But
it will be exceedingly strange if he
does not recognize Bolshevism, I. W.
W.-ism and Socialism as “European
plans”—unchanged by their transit
across the ooean..
The American soldier is apt, to rec

the school is being run in a tenant

and of course no teacher can do as
good work in a little narrow house as
they can in a nice roomy school room.
We are glad to note that the neW

Now lets all pull together, stick to

lets try to make this one of the very
