We, the gligni) jurors, selected, eiosen and sworn for tlie March
terra, 1919, of 'Douglas Superior Cou.it, herewith submit our general
presentments. ■>
Through oilr: committees we htfve examined the books of the
various County Oftiicials, and their (eports are hereto attached and
made a part of these 1 .presentments, and marked* exhibits “A,” "B,
"C,” “D,” “B,” “P,r “O,” “H,” ind “I.”
We have oxamineul the Court House and’ Jail and find them
sanitary and in fairly 'goo’d condition, with the exception of Court
House roof, which nee(Js some repairs. We recommend that these
repairs be promptly ma\de.
We recommend that; Dr. W. K. Burnett and 'Mr. A. L. Uampbcl-
be appointed to succeed 4. H. Taylor and G. W. Abercrombie, resigned,
on the Board of Kduiation.
We recommend that the balance of Court House sinking fund
now in hands of County Treasurer, be transferred to Road; Fund.
We respectfully recommend that our Representative and Senator
make diligent efforts to secure tin. passage of the bill authorizing th

hand to the best advantage, and we recommend that the citizens of
the County co-operate in every way possible in their efforts to secure
better roads.

These clubs set the standards of
achievement in home activities and
dignify common labor. Boys and
girls, both rural and urban, in the
clubs have their points of view
changed so they want to make fur
ther preparations and study in the
business of farming and borne
making. The work is as perma
nent as the public school system
because it is backed by permanent
institutions. State ami Federal,
and is a definite part of the co
operative extension program in
every State in the union.
Club work socializes community
life through the boys and girls
and gives young people a real mo
tive in oil their work. They are
trained through it for community
leadership and co-operative work
of every kind and are taught that

Owing to the State’s failure to pay to the schools the money ap
propriation, till close of the. year, it was necessary for the County
Board of Education to borrow -the sum of $10,000, in order to pay the
teachers promptly.
Scarcity of teachers in the early fall and a epidemic of Influenza
during the winter hampered! tlie school work, but conditions are now
improving.
Two members of the County Board of Education—J. H. Taylor
and G. W. Abercrombie—have moved from the County since the last
meeting of-your body, lienee it becomes your duty to select suoceccors

Gentlemen: In accordance to law, I herewith submit my report of
all expenditures arrising from nonducting the Pauper Farm, sinee

work is being emphasized by Coun

that a number have enrolled in
these clubs, names of whom are
given heloiv.
If these young people are
brought to a realization of the
importance of the work they are
loing and half of them become
inoculated with a desire to raise
the standard of farm life and con
sequently their own material con-
dition.this alone will be worth to
Douglas county many times the
cost of maintaining a county
agent.
