The campaign against the lax
divorce laws in Georgia is begin
ning to bear fruit. We see refer
ences very frequently in the coun
try newspapers about it. Anldj
when the country press gets inter
ested in' anything the state is likely
to become awakened. The last is
sue of the Swainsboro Blade dis
cussed the divorce evil in Georgia
as follows:
Divorce laws, such as are
on the statute books of Geor
gia, are a disgrace to any
state. Whenever a woman .
is allowed to cOme into court
ahd swear that her husband 1
spoke crossly to her a few
times, and the court calls this
cruel treatment, or the mlan
comes into court and swears
that he had trouble in keeping
the buttons sewed on bis pants
and this is made grounds for
divorce, it is time that some
people were made to live to
gether, wh«n they have en
tered into the sacred d.uties'of
matrimony. As the lows now
are there is not a man or wo
man or woman out of every
thousand now living together
its man and wife who could
not. coine into court and tell
the absolute truth and obtain
a divorce. There can pretty
near always and in all eases
he family troubles enough
scraped up to get a [divorce
under the present, lap's, and
there are plenty of people who
are always taking advantage
of these laws in order to got
rid of the old mate aqd get, a
new one. There are occasion
al cases where the [grounds
for divorce are good and suf
ficient reasons for giranting
one, and in such eases we be
lieve the party should 1 have a
divorce, but, we do not.believe
in giving a divorce just be
cause a man or wouian lias
found some, one else] whom
they happen to decide they
want to live with.” I
The need for reform jin the di
vorce laws of the state wait pretty
clearly shown in Savnunuh last
week, when a woman dame into
court and had a divorce verdict
set aside. She had been, divorce!

Compare this stage to tno n
two or three weeks life of thecofn

Now compare the next few years
of the child to that of the cotton

Cultivate your crop and your
crib is filled and your bills, paid.
The other side otl t.he question
is different. Your crib is empty,
your bills unpaid.
The mind that gets the cultiva

The plant that is not cultivated
is infav worse condition than the
little plant.
How is he to mount the oh-

The plants choked by the weeds
are just, like the cultivated plants,
only dwarfed, and often are con

If you gather it someone is ready
to accuse you.of stealing.
Excuse this little story :
Some few years ago, when the
Farmers’ Union was strongest,-a
certain lodge in our eCanty agreed
to turn out an acre of cotton per
member. One turned out an orch
ard by the roadside. When fall
came a few bolls of cotton were in
the grass and weeds. The mem
ber that turned said patclie was
wading through the grass and
weeds getting the soatering bolls,

OLD KINO COTTON
- By Bill Blue
Old King Cotton went o’er the top
Then as suddenly toolt a flop,
Went so low, stayed-there, too,
Made the farmers kind o blue.
Dern near out of meat and lard,
Cotton stacked up in the yard.
Everything is out of joint,
Prices falling point by point.
Don’t seem like the thing is right,
I can hardly sleep at night.
JuBt makes me so doggone sore
When I read the quotations o'er.
Gamblers' fault, it is, by heck.
Wish I had Jlim by the neck,
I'd give him back his fred advice
And soak his beezer once or twice*
It's time for me to kick and buck.
I'm mad and got my dander up.
When I get started in the fray
Just lock for cyclones on the way.
Just stamp* your feet, champ your, bit
But no more cotton dd you git
ou think you beat me in the race,
will hold the stuff or bust a trace.

APRIL
A successful campaign has just
closed against the Scale in the
home orchards of the couilty,
there having been 20 orchards
sprayed witih the concentrated’
lime-sulphur spray. Excellent re
sults are already manifest, yet thet
best good will not be noticeable
until later in the season, and now
that the dormant season is peat,
let us turn our attention to other
enemies of the 'fruit trees, enrrying

While the damage done by it is
sometimes very great, yet .it is
hardly as destructive as the round-
headed borer, yet it sometimes
girdles a limb and even the trunk.
Healthy trees are rarely attacked
by this borer. Therefore, farmers
who are cureful. with their fruit
trees need not fear it to any great
extent.
Preventive Measurers
The best way to control the
borers is to prevent them from
getting into the tree. After they
once get into the tree, about the
only method is to dig them out.
This is very loborous and disagree
able method. Tree wash, formula
