“Personality depends largely on
your person. An unattractive face
is a handicap, oftentimes too great
to overcome. Yet it is a handicap
that one can often prevent.”
Half of a woman’s beauty lies in
the proper care of the face, hands
and hair.
Care Preserves Beauty
Care not only preserves beauty but
often creates it. For the proper
care, good creams, lotions, mani
cure preparations, etc., are essen
tial. Naturally the most efficient
help you can get will be from the well-known,
time-tested preparations—the kind you e«
here. We have a full supply of tonics, per
fumes, toilet waters and other beauty aids.
Eldest paper in Scotland
Aberdeen Journal, Still "Going Strong,"
Made Ite First Appearance
April 18, 1746.
A recent issue of the Aberdeen
Journal was the 20,000th numher of
that venerable newspaper—now t^e
oldest in Scotland. The first issue
of the Journal waa published on.
April 18, 1746, and contained an ac
count, by an eyewitness, of the bottle
of Culloden, fought two days pre
viously. i This Narrative, hoWeVer,
offended the Jacobites, and James
Chalmers, the editor; narrowly es
caped falling a* victim to their wrath.
He was a fellow apprentice of Benja
min FraikSm 1 . Another-notable in
cident in the Journal’s history was
its being publicly burned at the
hands of the common hangman in
October, 1763—“’an excellent adver
tisement,” we are told.
But perhaps the outstanding event
in the career of the newspaper was
in 1787, when the Aberdeen Journal
was visited by Hubert Burns during
his northern tour. Tn the office, on
this occasion, Burns met Bishop
Skinner,, son of the author of “T.ul-
lbthgoruih” and “The Yowie wi’ the
Crokit Horn,” masterpieces of lit
erature, which evoked the admira
tion of the Ayrshire poet. Afterward
Burns and Chalmers (son of the
founder) adjohriied to the New inn,
Where .Doctor Johnson also stayed
on' his way north.

A schoolboy friend has shown’ me
a note .which he has received from
Mr. G. K. Chesterton in reply to
one asking him for his autograph
and, at the same time, tactfully com-
plimentihg him on his effective uba
of tlife -English language. Mr. Ches
terton replied! “Thank yob'bo touch,
for your fetter. I only write this
one in order to show yon, finally
and . upon, documentary, evidence,
that: I „ cannot write- English any
more than yon. I also am trying to
learn to do so. A most usual and
fruitful way of learning is to write
books. They sometimes pay you for
doing it, and the reviewers look
after the mistakes.”—Westminster
