The Ford Sedan is the favorite family car, seats five comfortably. While an
enclosed car with permanent top, it has large windows, and may in a minute be
changed to a most delightful open car with always a top protecting against the
sun. In inclement weather it is a closed car, dust-proof, water-proof, cold-proof.
Finely upholstered. Equipped with electric starting and lighting system aad
demountable rims with 3 J^-inch tires all around. A real familycar. Anybody can
safely drive it. It has all the conveniences of an electric car with the economy
which goes with Ford cars, low cost of purchase price, small cost of operation
and maintenance. Won’t you come in and look at it?
Child’, Marvelous Escape.
A child fell out o£ the Aberdeen ex
press when It wss traveling at full
speed the other dny near Drumlithle,
Scotland. A Port-Glaseow family
named Crohle, grandmother, mother,
and two little glrla, traveled In the
train. One of the children stumbled
against the carriage door, which open
ed, and she fell out. The frantic
mol her puUed the communication cord,
and the train was stopped. Two pas
sengers and the grandmother and
mother got out and ran along tile line
a considerable distance. Great was
the surprise and relief of all when
they met the child rnpulng along the
track after the train, cut and braised
about the fuce and legs, but not so-

Hidden Beauties of 8t. SophiaT j
What of St. Sophia at Constant!-1
nople? Many persons, observing how j
the program of after-war redemption j
Is working out. are asking what dls- !
position is to he made of the beau- 1
tlful building erected by Emperor Jus
tinian. which for nine centuries was a
Christian church but for nearly live
centuries has been a Mohammedan
mosque.
Already rival claimants to owner
ship have appeared on the scene, but
an Issue which some may think more
Important than the ecclesiastical one
Is the artistic one. An Italian writer
says: “Reopen the doors and win
dows that-have been bricked up. scrape
away the plaster which covers wall
nnd roof, and. behold! the basilica
whole and new.”
MAORIS WELCOMED AT HOME
Government and White Citizen* of
New Zealand Joined With Natives
In Great Reception..
Details of the return of the Maori
warriors who fought In Gallipoli and .
France have become available. When j
tho Maori Pioneer battalion diseni- !
barked at Auckland, amid a salute of j
cannon, they received a magnificent 1
welcome from the government and
white citizens of New Zealand, but 1
tho native ceremony waa the greatest \
event in Maori history since the royal j
visit vto Rotorua in 1901.
The Maoris have always been a
warrior race and as the battalion re
turning from the great war represent
ed every native tribe in New Zealand,
men from every tribe had gathered
in Auckland to give them a traditional
Maori pohlri or dance of welcome.
With chiefs and chieftalnesses at
their head and grouped in picturesque
native fashion, tho Arawa and Ma- \
tatna, the Ngopuhi, Manlapoto, Wal- j
kaio and Ngatiwlmtna tribes await
ed the Pioneer battalion.
As tbo Maori veterans passed
through the streets of Auckland the
city’s enthusiasm expressed Itself in
ringing cheers. At the entrance to
the Domnin a small group of white-
haired men stood at the salute. They
were the king’s empire veterans and
they wor£ the Maori war medal. Very
proudly the Maori battalion passed by
the veterans who had fought their
fathers and were now honoring them
kinsmen.—From Current History.

Fifty years ago the mosquito waa

pestilential nuisance. It was not until

A menace to public comfort to cause It

of July 28, 1809, ts an item telling of
the introduction In the board of com

enth ward of a bill to “prohibit tho-
raising of mosquitoes in the city of'
Washington.’’ yhe reading of the bill,
the Star says, excited a laugh, but It
was recognized that If it was success
ful In its operation it would entitle the ;
doctor to the thanks of the community.
It proposed to impose a penalty of
from $1 to $5 on every person who
should allow any bucket, tub or other
receptacle containing water to stand
in their yards, without having the
same securely covered, to provent
mosquitoes from propagating.
