The increase in motor vehicles in
Georgia is evident by the number of
license tags bought in the last few
years. They are ab follows: In 1914,
20,800; 1916, 24,059; 1916, 45,775; 19-
17, 70,496; 1918, 99,160; 1919, 120,000.

The prince is no mean person, hav-
ng an annual income around two mil
lions of dollars. We don’t blame the
princess. Neither de we censure the
prince. They ougljt to have the right
to get married if they want to. We
don’t blame th§ old gdnt in Egypt who
sees that income leaving the country
from trying to head him off, either.
The whole proceeding is human.
Ahd funny. And needless.
Will venture the assertion that
there iB not a idece of property in
Douglasville that is returned far tax

day.

The tax committee has doubtless
made some errors in its assessments,
but we rather suspect it was in leav
ing some properties too low. Property
vnlucB should be equalized as much as
possible.

CONFERENCE AT WASHINGTON
1 the* beginning of the conference be
tween labor and capital, with a repre
sentation of the public, may mean a
great deal to the people of this coun
try. The question has come up with
great force in this period of unpre
cedented prosperity, and labor de
mands a share of the general high
profits. Labor is right in this.
The settlement of an age-long
source of friction is not to be expected
in a day, or a conference. The begin
ning of a saner outlook upon economic
disputes, with an idea of saving the
public without hurting labor or capital,
should be foremost. The administra
tion has done the right thing in call
ing a conference, as the labor situa
tion is such that unless some step is
token we may expect strikes without
end, until there is nothing left to strike
for.
Capital is entitled to a fair profit.

The paper jobbers inform us that
there is a strong probability of many
small papers having to suspend publi
cation soon for lack of paper. It’s
like sugar; it not so much a question
of price as it is of supply. We were
fortunate this week in securing enough
to tide us over till the first of the year.

Miracles in Money
A city skyscraper seems a miracle in
steel and stone. But it is only a vast
number of girders painstakingly placed
together—a vast quantity of bricks
placed end to end and one above another.
Miracles in money are seeming miracles
only. Yon can work miracles in your
own life.
