EDITOR SELLS FARM
When a member of the “Fourth
Estate” has a piece of good fortunee,
his contemporaries naturally rejoice,
hence when Joe Lawrence, editor of
the Ashbum(Ga.) Wiregrass Farmer,
sold one of his farms the other day
for $50,000, brother editors showered
congratulations. Mr. Lawrence dis
posed of 500 acres to Senator J. S.
Singler and'his two sons, H. I. Sing-ler
and R. R. Singler, for $50,000, which
is $100 an acre. The well known
editor will now have more time to de
vote to his publishing interests and
to develop his other property.
Editor Lawrence with the Betts,
Shinglers and other well known men
went to Ashburn when the Georgia,
Southern & Florida Railroads was
being built and before there was a
depot at that point. He was among
the first merchants of the town,
quitting the business later on to take
up newspaper work. It was well for
his section that Joe Lawrenve got on
a newspaper, for it is largely due to
his pen that Ashburn and Turner
county occupy the position they do
today as one of the most thriving
communities in Georgia; in fact, the
whole section of state in which Mr.
Lawrence lives has been benefited by
the boosting they have received
through the columns of the Wiregrase
Farmer.
