The wage earners and employers
who have accepted the responsibility
of saying that the coal contained in
the bowels of Mother Earth is theirs
j to barter and trade in, and to use and
j handle in ways resulting to their own
! best advantages, are gradually learn-
! ing that there is a third party whose
name is “Public,” who has a very
deep interest in the condition that
has brought about a decrease in pro
duction and a threatened famine of
coal. The owners of the coal mines
and their employes have been nota
bly careless in their attitude towards
! the Government, and the public.
Nevertheless their quarrel has served
a good purpose in that wage disputes
are being discussed with a better un
derstanding than they were a few
weeks ago. The public which “holds
the bag,” is interested in having the
coal miners receive a decent wage.
On the other hand if the operators’
profits are excessive, and if these
men are guilty of the things charged
against them, there will be no popular
indulgence voiced in » their behalf.
In effect there is a new light break
ing on the industrial world, and it is
plainer every day that the “law of
force,” whether operated by the em
ployers or the employes, will not he
supported by the public. The Public
; has made it plain that it is not going
to be stampeded by a multiplying
, number of strikes and lockouts. The
handwriting on the wall indicates
that it is time for everybody to lay
j off reciting the story of victories
' which they put across and to get back
i into harness and help the United
f States to resume normal conditions
; in all its affairs.
Laziness is a fruitful topic for dis
cussion, but the people who ought to
read about it are too lazy to do so,
and we can’t penalize the industrious
by making them read about the sloth
ful. Besides, we don’t feel like such a
task!

A reader asks that we discuss lazi

We hardly a discussion necessary;
■ its example is prevalent.
| Being lazy is human. Some folks
j can’t help it, we don’t believe, while
others can’t help being smart. That’s
the only reason we can see why a few
are always hunting something else to
do. ,
Being lazy is regretful, because it
prevents a man or woman achieving
his or her best. If, however, the per
son- makes a comfortable living, and
then merely loafs by. not doing the
best possible, he or she is to be pitied.

The Ford Touring Car is literally the pioneer in the solution of the Good
Roads problem, because three million or more in operation brought up to the
millions of America the necessity of good roads if quick transportation at low
expense was to be enjoyed. The simplicity of the Ford car, its stability in
construction, the famous heat-treated Vanadium steel with its marvelous strength
and flexibility, the low cost of operation and maintenance, its ease in operation,
all have made the Ford car the great favorite in every land in the world. It’s
the one car that always satisfies and serves. A utility beyond question that all
can afford. We sell them and mil be pleased to have your order. Don’t delay,
because the demand is heavy all the time. We have almost everything in motor
car accessories, carry the genuine Ford Parts, and assure the best in mechanical
repair work.
