BUSINESS GUIDE
You’ve heard book agents talk up
their wares until they were blue in
the face, and you’ve also heard them
talk down the books the other fellow
had to sell. But did you ever hear a
hook agent, or any one else, say that
the Bible isn’t the best book in all
the world?
And yet, while we’ve been looking
on the biole as the best book for our
spiritual and moral welfare we seem
to have overlooked the fact that it
is also the best book ever written
on modern business. We believe every
Bible reader in Douglasville will be
interested in a few words along that
line, and so ought every business man
regardless of whether he is a reader
of the book or not. Bruce Barton,

Joe C. McCarley
jfamous author, recently said, speak-
' ing in a New York church*
“The Bible has the greatest record
of salesmanship ever written. St. Paul
sold religion #o Athens when it was
fearfully overstocked with religions
of its own. And he did it by making
a survey of the situation and utiliz
ing conditions at hand, just as a
modern salesman must do. The great
trouble with our pastors of today is
they do not know there are dif
ferent forms of salesmanship, and the
do not know what news is. They must
learn to trust the newspaper men.
The things Christ did were great news.
They would be great news today.
Peter's release from jail by reason of
the earthquake woul(T"deserve a big
headline if it happened today.”
There’s some mighty gooff food for
thought in those few words. Think
if over, and then see if it isn’t possible
to make the Bible apply a little closer
to your own business affairs.
THEY YVERE SENSIBLE
Maybe one reason overalls are not
more popular is because it is so hard
to conceal anything in the hip pockets.
Every Douglasville boy learns to
know that when everything else fails
he can always get his “fill” at a den.

Now that money gives every in
dication of tightening up throughout
this country we want to congratulate
those residents of Douglasville and vi.
cinity who had the foresight to save a
little of it while they had a good op
portunity. Especially would we com
mend those who learned the savings
habit as a result of war’s aeftrities,
and who learned the lesson of thrift
through their part in the mighty
Today more people in this
ve money in the bank
than ever before, or have investments
in real estate or farm property as a
result of learning the first step in
saving.
Don't he misled by the fallacy that
you are justified in not practicing
thrift. If you do not learn to save
money while working on a small sal
ary you will fail to save anything
when your earning capacity increases.
Some of the most successful men
America has ever known laid the foun
dation for financial success by saving
a little bit out of their riduculously low
wages.
Too many are apt to disregard the
value of small savings. If you are
able to put away but $2.50 a month
it means you’ve saved $368 in 10
years, if deposited at 4 per cent in
terest. Five dollars a month will
total $737 in the same time and $10
a month, or less than $2.50 a week
will net you the sum of $1,475 in a
decade, or ten years. In other words,
any sum of money deposited at com
pound interest of 4 per cent, will more
than doubt itself in 15 years. It’s
the little things that count, so if you
are still one of those who didn’t start
saving while the war was on, start
: now before money gets tighter and
still harder to get.
CARD OF THANKS . "
To those who so nobly stood by me
in my recent bereavement, doing all
in their power to ease the pains of
the afflicted one, and whose words of
consolation helped in no small degree
to allay the pains of a broken heart,
I desire to express my deepest grati
tude and thanks. May God's richest
blessings ever rest upon them, is my
earnest prayer.
