Entered in the Postoffice at Dougiasville, Ga., as second class matter.
It always pays to be truthful—especially if you marry a
widow.
Judging from the way some women wear their hair, they
must be earless.
It is almost as bat'd to live up to a good reputation as to
live down a bad one.
Never tell a living soul you've found a substitute for some
thing or the price will double.
Vice-President Marshall, says that profiteers should be
put in jail. Tell it to Palmer.
Every man caught wearing overalls should be made to
votk. 7'his is no time for fads.
It is said Gen. Wood is backed by the soap trust. Guess
they will keep him well "lathered.”
Thirty thousand cubic feet of air weighs one ton. It ts
now up to the profiteers to fix the price.
A lot of candidates would loom up belter as "dark houses”
if their records were not already so shady.
The fellow who cant find anything to do hut knock his
home town should be made to move out.
They’ve offered a reward of $100,00 for Villa, dead or
iilive. We hope General Pershing sees that offer.
One thing to be said in favor of the presidential- pri
maries—they’re putling a lot of money into circulation.
All Dougiasville men ought to be in favor of the bank
ruptcy law. They may have to take it if they eat steak and po
tatoes at the same meal.
Instead of selecting the hat that is most becoming most
women pick the one that will make their husband maddest
when they get the bill.

Another thing, too many Dougiasville people spend their
time hunting something to feel miserable about.
With backless gowns and half-hose prescribed for the wo
men it looks to us like a busy summer for the mosquitoes.
Wc’vc just heard of a .smart young bride. She makes her
biscuit small so her husband will have less to grumble about.
Thf federal prison at Atlanta should be nicknamed “The
Gateway ” judging from the number of prisoners who have
made their escape the pas:* few days.
When all this territory around Dougiasville was a wilder
ness a man took a powder horn and went hunting for deer.
Now the little dear takes a powder rag and goes hunting for
a man.
The Men’s Progressive Club is the best organization of
its kind ever in Dougiasville. They do things, instead of dis
cussing them. And under their guidance Dougiasville will be
made one of the best little towns on the map.
At the recent meeting of the National Postal Employes
Association, a resolution was passed to the effect that the or
ganization would support no man for the presidency who re
tained Burleson in his cabinet. To which we say, amen'
Instead of teaching Dougiasville children the earth is
round we may soon have to start teaching them it is crooked.
It will be a long time before any country tries to get into
war with the United States. It takes them too long to get out.
Sugar ought to be selling at 5c or 6c in Dougiasville. But
it isn't, so there's not much use in talking about what ought to
That 20 per cent discount prevading the country is a!-
m right. Provided, the merchant doesn’t move up his prices to
'J. jneet the "cut.”
We are always glad to meet the
Dougiasville citizen who has a sug
gestion to make that will benefit his
town, hie neighbor, or his community.
We are also glad to have such citi
zens write us. But we want to say-
here and now that we’ve mighty lit
tle respect and no admiration for the
one who will seek to criticise a pub
lic improvment or cast a reflection
upon someone in the neighborhood by
hoping to get printed a communication
to which they aie too cowardly to sign
their name.
We suppose every newspaper office
receives such communications, other
wise they wouldn’t need waste bas
kets. We suppose every town and
community has a number of these
kind of citizens, who want to con
demn something or somebody, and
yet who are so little as to seek to
shift the blame for any trouble that
may aries to the shoulders to the
newspaper. We get such communi
cation occasionally, and outside of
wishing we knew the authors were
so we could set them before the pub
lic in their true light, we permit them
to go into the waste basket or the
stove. Aways we can read between
the lines and see that the authors of
these anonymous communications are
the very ones who do the least to
help their town or county, and who
are the slowest to get back of any
movement intended to boost the in
terests of themseves and their neigh
bors.
Helpful letters of suggestions, con
structive criticism is always to be
desired, and we encourage it. Let
ters from citizens who are well-mean
ing will always find space in our
columns. But the class that seek to
stab someone or slam some public in
stitution under a fictitious name had
better save their stamps.

MARSHAL’S SALE
The wise Douglnsville man is quick to say “No” when his
wife asks him if the woman who just moved next door is pretty.
We see where a New Jersey farmer has just sold a cow for
$7000, and we can’t help but feel she is a descendant of the one
that jumped over the moon.
A dollar may be only worth fifty cents, as some financiers
contend, but wc notice the scramble for them in Dougiasville
is just as great as it used to be.
