The American Legion is slowely but
surely rounding into' its full propor
tions. In the beginning the boys were
alow to join, bat lately the member
ship has been increasing until the roll
now includes over four million Ameri
can soldiers who wore the uniform
during the world war.
Just why any man who is elgible
to membership in this organization
should not join we do not know. To
the mar who is not eligible it would
an ex-soldier could do. To be a mem-
seem to be the most (rational thing
bcr of this great organization cer
tainly ought to. be a proud boast, and
we believe every citizen of Douglas-
ville who has taken the time to look
into the constitution of it will agree
with us when we so assert.
But the truth is there are a lot of
people who do not understand the
nature of the legion. It is not an
insurance company nor a political 1 or
ganization. It has no benefits, such
as many fraternal orders. It is sim
ply an association of men who were
loyal and patriotic when their country
needed them; who endured the hard
ships of war and camp; an organiza
tion of the kind of Americans of
which every real American should
feel proud.

the good old torchlight pro
cession had to give way
before the advance of prog

Tires are often sold the
same way politics are.
The last people to wake
up to what they are getting
are the people who pay the
hills.
The bills are getting too
-big these days in both cases.
And the man who is feeling
it most with respect to tires
is the man who owns a
moderate-price car.
(II
The idea that the small car
owner doesn’t need a good
tire is rapidly going the way
of all mistaken ideas.
He needs it more than
anyone else. It’s part of our
job, as we view it, to see
that he gets it.
Our tire service starts with
good tires—U. S. Tires. All
sizes made to a single stand
ard of quality*—none graded
down to the price of the car
they will go on.
U. S. perfected the first
straight side automobile tire
— the first pneumatic truck
tire.
The U. S. guarantee is for
the life of the tire, and not
for a limited mileage.
IV
When we recomihend and
sell U. S. Tires we do so in
the interest of greater tire
economy. It is our experi
ence that that is the best
way to build up a sound and
sizable business.
