Says Former Congress
man Declared Several
Times He Would Remain
Neutral In Congression-j
al Race.
Love makes the world go 'round, but it usually takes mar
riage to square it.
A hoop is about the only thing left in this country that
can make both ends meet.
It is said there are so many blackberry pickers this season
that it’s a regular "jam.”
What greater distinction could a man have nowadays than
to have a potato named for him.
Every woman is smart enough not to judge any smart
nan by his table manners.
It has been our observation that the fast man is seldom
going in die right direction.
T ime is money. Maybe that’s the reason some Doug-
Insville people prefer to buy on tick.
And not trying to do more than the average in this world
is what, keeps the average down.
The DouglasviUe woman who wears false hair never ad
mits it. .She keeps it under her hat.
Most DouglasviUe men are like pins—they are no good
when they lose their heads.
Congressman W. D. Upshaw makes i
the following statement concerning I
the attitude of former Congressman i
Wm. Schley Howard on the race forj
Congress:
“Without solicitation, Mr. Howard;
has told me several times, “I am for !
you against the world.” He intro-1
duced me to a friend in his office as
“the best congressman any district
ever had.”
He has sent me more letters and
telegrams asking for my official help
than any other man in the district.
He knows that every request received
prompt attention.
After the Hon. Hooper Alexander
entered the race Mr. Howard told me
on the court house steps in Atlanta
in the presence of L. G. Gower, Pres.
Federal Employees Union: “I am
bound to neutral between two life-1
long friends.”
He voluntarily told me at the Ter-!
minal Station; “My name was publ
isher! as speaker for Alexander with
out my knowledge. I will not speak
for him during campaign. I will re
main neutral.”
And yet he went deliberately to
Lithonia and spoke the following
Thursday for Alexander and is con
tinuing his activities for Hooper Alex
ander. He says he is my friend, but
my friendship for him did not cause
me to try to defeat him when he has
been in Congress only one term. I
leave the verdict with the people.

Whatever else there may he in the way of a food shortage
next winter, there’ll he plenty of “crow” for defeated can
didates.
WORK IS SO UNPOPULAR
SOMETHING IN IT
A negro soldier coming back to the
dressing station with his right hand
missing was seen to stop suddenly and
start briskly back toward the front.
When questioned as to why he
changed his mind, he said:
“Well, sah, I was starting back to +
find mah hand.”
“But,” he was told, “yoi
it on again.”
“No, sah, but mah dice
hand.”—Cottonyams.

TIMES
YOU BELIEVE
IN
“A SQUARE DEAL”
Ppmpmhpi* For ^ rst * n a
-generation the Congress
man from the Fifth District has opposition for the
second term. Mr. Hooper Alexander and Mr. Ben
Blackburn who want Congressman Will D. Upshaw’s
job before he has it one term are the only ones who
complain about his record. One of them is backed
by “Silk-Stocking” money and the other has always
been on the liquor side.
But Senator-elect Thomas J. Heflin of Alabama
who has seen Upshaw on the job, says:
“I have been here sixteen years and have watched
new men come and go. Upshaw has made the
greatest headway I have ever known a new man to make during his first year in
Congress.” j
Secretary Josephus Daniels:
“Upshaw has made a 100 per cent Congressman and then some.”
Remember Again
Over one thousand men and women have letters, telegrams and appeals on
file in his office, and the opposition cannot find one person in that whole number
who will say he has not been prompt and efficient. Many of them came from
Douglas county.
What more could a new member do ?
Give Congressman Will D. Upshaw, an old Douglas County Boy, “A
Square Deal” and the usual endorsement of a Second Term.
UPSHAW CAMPAIGN COMMITTEE
WALTER NlcELREATH. Chairman.
P S —Look out for “Eleventh Hour” campaign methods on the part of the
opposition.' But you have known Will D. Upshaw for thirty years. He has
worked hard for this district and always been on the side of Right.
You can trust him in Congress and everywhere. U. C. C.
Call all the others what you will, j j
hut when all is said and told and re
told, there is but one great Circus
which is in every particular and de
tail the greatest and grandest of the
entire world’s circuses, and that is
the Rhoda Royal Enormous R. R.
Show, which is coming to Douglna-
ville on Friday September 3rd in all
its regal magnificence, its unrivaled
splendor, its unequaleed numbers and
vast proportions. Under the greatest
city of snow white tents ever erected
on any grounds will be seen fully
one hundred—count them!—fully one
hundred exalted stars, who will give
one hundred and fifty superior and
supreme acts, too numerous to clas
sify too many to name, too multi
farious to describe. . Bareback riding
‘hurdling, trick, fancy and manege

tics, tumbling, vaulting, leaping, ath
letic and contortion feats, juggling,
equilibristic pole balancing, breaking
ladders and other acts. Unique,

elsewhere. Many of them by for

Upshaw An Old
Douglas Co. Boy
Remember that Congressman Will
D. Upshaw is an old Douglas county
boy. He feels an interest in the people
that a stranger cannot feel. Since
he has been in Congress he faithfully
and efficiently severed all constit
uents who have called on him—many
of them Douglas county boys. Why
vote for a stranger when Douglas
county has a home man who has been
faithful and who has only been in
congress one term?
Give Douglas to an old Douglas
county boy!
