Philippine Indepen
dence
It is with approval that we note
the agitation for the entire inde-
pendenc of the Philippine Islands.
It may not he best for them hut it
is for us; and as they are crying
for it, we say let them have tlieii
wish.
Ttie Philippine Islands are too
far away, and their people too dis
tinet and different from our cus-
Jjmjs gnd habi's to make a work
lug relation either agreeable or
profitable. They ca» be, under
the situation and prevailing con
dition, only a source of trouble,
anxiety, and expense, and the
quicker we give them their wish,
(independence without protect
ion) the better for our people.
Removing this cause for trouble
w ith Japan, we have but very lit
tle need for the Four Powers, for
which we have bad to give up so
many of o»r lights and principles
as a nation. Now, that we may
have an end of these troubles and
expenses for all times, let’s give
them their liberty and bid them
adieu, with all good wishes.
The saiio. principle does not ap
ply, of course, to Cuba, Portariea,
or even tu Hawaii, which are
nearer our shores and in better
touch with our protection, our
trade and our customs. These
islands, along with the many

Villa Rica’s Proposed

Douglasville Jextehds the glad
hand to Villa Rica on the passage
of the $40,01)0 bond issue for
schools and especially because of
the unanimity of the vote. It shows
that most of the people in our sis

progress. Nothing can better
give an impetus to declining or

improvements. Let Douglasville
be awake; there are many needed
improvements we can and should
put under way if we grasp the
opportunities the unsettled condi
