Mr. Geo. Tucker was in town
Tuesday and reports cotton badly
cut off in his part of the county,
Potatoes are good, but cane will be
short.
Mr. Warren Nobles, who lives
about six miles southeast of town,
has a little daughter quite sick with
fever. He is convalescing from an
attack of the same disease himself,
Mr. J. S. Lott’s pea, potato and
cane crops are seriously hurt by
dry weather. Mr. Smith, of the
same section of Coffee county, and
others, were seriously hurt by the
drouth.
We would, if we could, impress
one fact upon the mind of every
man in the county, and that is, to
never permit politics to sever friend
ship, and ono way to do this is to
never say or do anything in a polit
ical campaign that is calculated to
stir up ill-will.
Mrs. Merritt, wife of Mr. Thomas
Merritt, of Coffee county, died on
Thursday afternoon of last week ‘
She leaves a husband and a large
family of children, besides a host
of other relations and friends, to
mourn her death. Truly, a good
woman has gone to her reward.
Mr. L. K. Tm-ker attended camp
meeting at Gaskins Spring, in
Coffee county, from Thursday of
last week until Monday of this
week. You needn’t ask him about
the rain on the dinner Saturday, or
Mr. George Tucker as to what Lite
was asking tor when he met him
returning home Monday.

is over a year hence, and it, is en

fences or make slates.
Mr. W. J. Luke, who has been
quite sick with chicken-pox, or |
something resembling it, and who I
had a relapse, is now up. He lives !
about six miles northeast of Ocilia. (

Cotton is rolling in to Ocilia lively
now.
Mr. J. M. Barnes has lived
twenty-five years at the same place
and has never had a case of fever
in his family, which consist of
himself, wife and ten children. His
home is about six and a half miles
northeast of Ocilia, and he is one
of the solid farmers of Irwin.
The Bank of Ocilia is one of the
most important institutions in the
town and gives it more prestige
abroad than any other business con
cern in it. Its cashier, Mr. I. B.

of the bank as well as those who
are not patrons, This bank is a
home institution and is as solid as
a rock. Patronize it.
Mr. J. M. Barnes started to
Ocilia Tuesday with two bales of
cotton. When near Whitley he
«’as told that our town was infected
with small-pox and was closely
: quarantined, no one being allowed
to go in or come out, »so he turned
his team to Fitzgerald and sold his
cotton there. He was in town
Wednesday, and now knows how it
is himself. People should be care
ful how they talk.
Sheriff Fletcher captured a horse
thief named Albert Warnock a few
days ago. He was serving a twelve
y ear » ft sentence in James' camp, es
\ caped, stole a horse and buggy in
Emanuel county and sold it to a
Mr. Melton at Mvstic, taking a due
bill in payme n t . Last Tuesday
