child. It can’t quite make up it’s
mind to venture forward, but with
a gentle push it makes an attempt.
and after thut yon can’t, stop
from going ahead; and so it is
with all the people. At first they
are shy to entrust us with their
trade, thinking that our goods can’t
be right because the prices are so
low, but after they hava taken the
first step, as a result of our
stant pushing, and assured them-
selves that what we said was really

at any other house for love
money. Have you, gentle reader,
taken the first step yet? Have you
ever tried us on a fine dress, cloth-

Mrs. D. R. Henderson visited
Mrs. Thos. McMillan Sunday. ;
.Abbeville, Ga. Oct. 24.—Dr. ;
Eason, of Claxton, came here today
by request and examined several
eases among the negroes thought to j
be small-pox. A careful exatnina-
tion proved it not to be small-pox.
Dr. Eason has a large experience in !
the treatment of the disease.
While there have been about aev-
ol the disease . ltd
enty-five cases tn a
about Ocilla this year, not a single
death has occurred, and most of the
cases have been cured without
ing any sign on the skin. Dr. !
Stalker* one of the delegation of
physicians sent to Ocilla yesterday
by the city council to investigate
the disease there, gives it as his !
opinion that it is not small-pox. j
Dr. Stalker is an up-to-date physi-
ohm and within the past few years
has had many cases of real small- j
p.ox at Chicago and elsewhere. He
has closely studied in the medical
journals and newspapers the history
of the disease now prevailing in
Georgia, and,comparing the two dis-
.eases, comes to the same conclusions
reached by the doctors who have
been upon the , , . ,

the disease not small-pox ,, and . they ,
is
do not know what it is. It is the
opinion of your correspondent that
there is not a single case of small¬
pox in Irwin county.—Fitzgerald
