THE OCILLA D1SPAIEH.
OCILLA, IB WIN COUNTY, GA., FRIDAY, NOVEMBER 24, 1899,
There are few if any unvaccin¬
ated white people in Ocilla now.
Even the colored people seem eager
to try the preventative.
Mr- D. B. Smith, a nephew of
Dr. Goodman, of Tifton, was shot
by a negro in Florida a few days
ago.
Mr. Jack Grantham and Mrs.
Peggy Grantham were married Sun¬
day mght, ’Squire J. A. J. Nobkb
officiating. May their lives be bliss-
ful.
The camp i—small pox, we
mean—is no more to be dreaded
now than it was three or four weeks
ago. If you have busiess in town,
attend to it as usual.
Mr. R. L. Henderson succeeds
Mr. D. R. Henderson as deputy
sheriff. Bob’s friends all over the
county know he will make a good
officer, as he is good anywhere you
pat him.
Mr. D. R. Henderson has resigned
his office of deputy sheriff and has
moved to south Florida to engage
in the turpentine business. Ocilla
sees Mr. Henderson and family
leave with regret, but hopes to have
them back again. They left Tuesday.
We ask our contemporaries to
help us spread the information that
Ocilla has isolated every case or
suspected case of small pox and
that a compulsory vaccination ordi-
nance is now in force. No white
person has yet taken tbe disease
in town, and it is not likely that
any will hereafter. The danger of
taking it is to small too mention.

Quarantine Order.
GRORGIft—Irwin Gountu:
OFFICE OF
COMMISSIONER OF ROADS AND REVENUES
OF SAID COUNTY.
Irwinvixle, Ga., November 21, 1899.
Whereas, There is and has been for a number of months a pre¬
valence of Small Pox or other similar skin disease in Irwin county, the
same having been recently pronounced Small Pox by a United States
Government expert, and,
Whereas, Said disease at present ehows no signs of abatement,
It is therefore ordered, That a hospital be, and the same is
hereby established, for the treatment and proper care of such persons as
are infected with the same whose residence is outside of any of the in¬
corporated towns in said county.
It is further ordered, That all persons residing outside of the
corporate limits of towns in said county who have such disease to main¬
tain quarantine strictly. Therefore persons or families infected with
this disease, if allowed to remain at their homes unmolested by the
County Quarantine officers, must be properly cared for, and prevent
ingress or egress upon the part of the inmates of their residence or out¬
siders, and failure to do this will necessitate the placing of guards
around such places by the County Quarantine officers at the expense of
the occupants, or their removal to the Pest House, as the law provides.
Let this Order be spread upon the Minutes of tbo County Com¬
missioners Court, be published in circular form and in every paper in
said county.
M. HENDERSON,
County Commissioner.

Superior court will convene the

isolation of all small pox cases will
render, it unnecessary to further

Cane grinding is now epidemic in
this section. It broke out at Mr.
Lije Hogan’s Monday, and many
of his sympathetic friends have sat
up nights with him this week.
Neither local option nor the Wil¬
lingham bill will wipe out the liquor
traffic. It might be curtailed to
some extent,, but many of its worst
evils would remain. This may not
be a popular view to take of the
question, lmt it is a true one.

There are quite a number of
people in town and counrty who
do not yet believe the breaking out
is small pox. To such we would say,
accept the expert’s decision and join
in with the town and county author-
ties in stamping out the disease.
There is no need for compulsory
vaccination in Ocilla. The people,
white and black, are taking in the
lymph at a lively rate, and in a few
days the breaking out will slink
away for the want of material to
work on.
Mr. T. P. Green, a newspaper
man of twenty-five years experience,
four of which were spent in the
government printing office in Wash¬
ington, is now with the Dispatch.
He is a first-class printer, both
newspaper and job, and is at home
in the other departments of news¬
paper work. His only drawback is
timidity, but we depend on Lije
Young to pull him through that.
