HON. J. L. BANKSTON.
WIU be the Next Solloitor-Cen^raJI,
of the Oconee. Circuit.
From the Abbeville Chronicle.
The rnqny friends of Col. J, L..
Bankston review with pleasure and
pride his canvass for soUcilor-g.en-
eral of the Oconee circuit. His
race has been conducted upon a high
plane, and has 1 been entirely tree
frpm.Gbjpctiongblp, f?alt.uj;ea, i It is
to be deplored that over-zealous
friends of the other two candidates
for solicitor-general have in the last
week or, two sent communications
to,the press of the circuit which will
be apt , to leave a sting.of bitterness.
Gol. Bankston is eminently, quali¬
fied for the office and for thirty years
has been in, active practice of the
law. He is a man of the people,
plain and unassuming, of scrupulous
honesty, of tireless energy and in
point of ability easily the peer of
any man in the race.
He is a gallant Confederate vet¬
erans with? a stainless war, record. He
gave four years of his youth, to the
“Lost Cause,” and since the sur¬
render at Greensboro,, N v C.,hp has
labored zealously for- li,i$ state a*d
the Democratic party. He has al
ways beep, a worker in the ranks of
the people and has never before asked
their, suffrage. Confederate veter¬
ans are rapidly “crossing over the
river,.” and he is probably the last
of thqse heroes who will a^k the peo¬
ple of the Oconee circuit for the
office of solicitor-general. Since the
war but one Confederate veteran has
held this office, and it is high time
that another of this valiant band had
thig hpnor.
The people of, Wilcox county,
among whom Col. Bankston has re¬
sided. for the past fifteen years, are
with him in this race, and wherever,
yog find in any county of the Oconee
circuit a former,citizen of k Wilcox
there you will see a friend of Gob
Bankston, and an .earnest,. active,
zealous advocate, of his candidacy.
His election is a foregone con¬
clusion,, an4 reports from all over
the circuit indicate his
by a hanflsome majority. V.ote for
