How They Do in Houston,
Fjfwfi the Fort Vaiiuy Loader.
Here is a practical home lesson in
diversity of crops from the facts,
figures and experience of a Houston
county planter.
This is what he sold from his farm
in. 1899:
1,000 bushels corn.. *500 00
75 bales of cotton ... 1,875. 00
30a bushel* potatoes 8
Meat............... a
Cattle...... a 00
J?eas...... g
Fodder.....'. s
Cotton seed s
Total* *‘1,800 00
This does not include 1,000 bush¬
els corn consumed on the farm and
other products (cotton, excepted)
for home consumption. He has Vf>5
acres of medium, land, 500 of whieh
are in cultivation. lie employs 1,
regular hands and works 7 mules.
The gross income for the year was
$2,800, and this does not include
products, not sold but used to pay
labor, feed stock and reduce the
family expenses to almost nothing.
The income for 183-8 was about
the same.

Nineteen hundred will mark an
era of prosperity in the South
that has not been looked for. The
enormous amount of capital which
has found its way to the Southern
states during the past few weeks is
agreebly surprising. The number
of new factories that are to be built,
the additions that are to be made
on the old ones and the healthy
state of all other manufacturing in¬
terests are heralds of prosperity,
and Georgia, Empire State of them
all, is ooming in for her share, and
is fast gaining recognition as the
banner state for solid investment.—
