Miss. Goodman, a charming
young lady of -Fitzgerald, came
■down to attend the school closing
near Mr. J. R. Paulk’s yesterday.
Mr. John D. Paulk is putting a
new flooring in the bridge across
•Brushy Creek between Mr. Ed. Dor-,
iminey’s and Mr. J. J. Harper’s, and
making other repairs.
Cupid was very busy at Bowen’s
Mill Wednesday. ’One charming
young lady, who resides some dis¬
tance in the country., calls every¬
body “Mr. Paulk” now.
Captain Bowen said to the writer
Wednesday night: “The big crowd
at the picnic to-day was one of the
soberest and best behaved that has
ever picniced at tlie swimming
pool.”
A few frying-size chickens come
an occasionally, but the hotel keep¬
ers usually get to them first. We
would like to swap fifty ceuts for a
pair of half grown chickens, just to
see how they taste.
Those who spent the 4th it Fitz¬
gerald-report having enjoyed the
festi'vites hugely. On that day
Fitz beat the Valdosta and Ocilla
baseball teams by long scores.

Mr. Melvin J. Paulk, son of Mr.
J. W. Paulk, of Ocilla, will be an
applicant for county commissioner.
Mr. Paulk is well qualified for
office, and it elected will, we do
■doubt, give ..general satisfaction.

have time to fill the pool again that
day.
We regret t© learn of the illness
of Mr. Jesse Grantham, who was
suffering the first of the week wish
lung trouble.
There will be a big picnic near
Luke on Friday, 20 tli instant. This
is in the Lewis Hancock settlement,
and is going to be one of the best of
the year.
One pretty little Miss says she
learhed to swim two licks at Bowen’s
Mill Wednesday. She'did not say a
word about the pint of water she
■drank unintentionally.

horse mule strayed from Kissimmee
Sunday night, 17th inst. Informa¬
tion of said mule will be thankfully
received by me at Kissimmee, Ga.
The mule had a halter on, without
rein, and has scar on point of left

It was a notable fact, at Bowen’s
Mill Wednesday, that when Mayor
.Jim got squarely on his feet in the
pool it was impossible to unbalance
him. Nothing like having a firm
foundation.
AIiss Bettie Luke, of Irwinville,
passed through Ocilla Monday en
route to Shepherd, Ga., where she
was called on account of the sickness
of her sister, Mrs. J. S. Lott. We
hojHi Mrs. Lott has recovered ere
this.
Mrs. Heavy and baby, Ethel, ac¬
companied by Mrs. Peavy’s mother,
Mrs. T. P. Green, left for her home
in Randolph county this morning.
Fitz. is now and will he a grass-
widower for a few weeks.
The ©cilia Drug Company has
put a beautiful frame around their
soda fountain. We can’t discribe it.
Mark Anderson is the maker and
the Ocilla Variety Works did
the turning. It is the handsom¬
est piece of work of the kind m
town and flreects credit upon the
skill of the maker and the Drug

recent wet spell has had a very dam¬

ailment called scald.
Miss Mhry Brown, a charming
daughter of Mr. Sam Brown, of
Bede, Ga., visited relatives in Coin a

day of this week, returning home

The colored people of Ocilla will
give a grand free dinner on July
14th, and will have a special table
for their white friends. The meats
will be barbecued and served up in
fine style. Altogether, the dinner
promises to be a very interesting
erne.
John Lfccius Falkner, aged about
fourteen, son of (Mr. Jim Faulkner,
was drowned in Alapaha river at
the old Fort bridge last Wednesday.
There was a picnic at the bridge
that day, and it is supposed that
young Faulkner and others were in
bathing when he lost his life.
Miss Betli-e Luke, who passed
through Ocilla last Monday morning
en route to Sheppard, to be with her
sister, Airs. J. S. Lott, who was
threatened with malarial fever, 'w as
to telegraph her brother, Dr. J. C.
Luke,if she needed him, but had not
done so up to noon today (Friday),
and it-is safe te say that Mrs. Lott
is better.
We ‘have been informed thht the
Chairman of the county democratic
executive committte. Judge J. B.
Clements, is and has* beeh ready for
some time t© call the executive com-
rnittee together for the purpose of
ascertaining if a primary (shall lie
called, when one or more of the com¬
mittee sends to him, in writing, a
request to that effect.
Mr. Jesse Luke, above Irwinville,
is highly pleased with his velvet
bean crop, lie says they now cover
the ground to a depth of over two
‘feet,and they are now just in a'good
way of growing. While in Imvin-
vilie Tuesday be gave us about a
peck of the finest tomatoes we have
seen this year. -Oho weighed a
pound.
Fitzgerald is'"¥naking a strong ef¬
fort to raise -ffinds to build a cotton
factory. We know of no enter¬
prise better calculated to increase
her pr'osperity,tihan a cotton factory.
