The Banner, so far as the head
is concerned, is about fight, hut the
pnpor otherwise is much below our
expectations- We were hopeful,
and strained every nerve to that
end, that we would be able to pre¬
sent the Banner this week in her
virgin beauty, bnt we must confess
to a keen disappointment. By
next week, howefer, we expect to
have our Campbell cylinder press
properly adjusted, and also have
on hand a large lot of new type di¬
rect from the Baltimore foundry.
Of course we feel our disappoint¬
ment sorely, but every thing will
work out all right in the sweet by*
and-bye.
We have invested largely in press
and material and it is our purpose,
as stated before, to get out a crack
ing good paper. It must be tip-top.
This we suppose will satisfy
every one if the paper should be
wanting in any degree in typograph¬
ical brilliancy, editorial flashes and
and witty local brieflots this week.
ABOUT THE OIL MILL
A Letter Bristling with Interest for
Every Body.
(Communicated.)
A trip to the mill of the Conyers
Oil & Fertilizer Company is’Worth
your while. The process of making
oil from cotton seed, and of making
guano from cotton seed meal is in¬
teresting from beginning to end.
This mill is one of the first man¬
ufacturing projects of our county,
and it has veritably proved a bless¬
ing. No town or city prospers so
well as when the march of pro¬
press is inspired by the busy hum
of industry and of trade. Good
schools and churches are of para
mutn t importance, but next in or¬
der and following close upon their
brads are small and varied manu¬
facturing enterprises. Conyers has
been awakened from her Kip-Van
Winkle like sleep of some ten years
by the merry clinking of rock ham¬
mers. the bell like tone of new made
Terrell scrapes, and by the rumb¬
ling rolling constant rattle of one
of the best Oil mills in the state.
Thus inspired Conyers lias put
on new life and has emerged from
her gloomy lethargy, and lias
for the past year or so, been
making steady and telling strides
towards making heiself a noted
ami lively business center. But \vc
digress. Our aim was to apeak on¬
ly of our Oil mill. The surround¬
ings, however, for Conyers future
Mere too bright to resist the tempta¬
tion of making a passing allusion to
whaj was going on about us.
The mill at present is under the
splendid management of Mr. J. P.
Tilley. And is in the best running
condition it has ever been in. Sev¬
eral new pieces of machinery have
been put in, and the mill bids fair
to have by far its most profitable
season. Tha only draw-back to an
unusually successful run this* year
is that a large number of the bes
farmers of the county among them,
lion. W. L. Peek, Esquire Parker,
J. W. Granade, A. Whitaker and
J. IV. Hollingsworth, say that the
seed are quite inferior. This may,
and possibly will effect the yield
of oil. However the mill is run¬
ning in full time. The most notice¬
able and remarkable feature, about
the mill is the clean nice manner
in which the floors and machinery
arc kept.
It would be an accident if a lady
should soil her tjress while going
through the mill. Ths stockholders
are to l>e congratulate! on having:
secured such an able and attentive
superintendent and while he C 0 D-

now it seems that Russia and
France have designs upon Germany;
but it is all like a kaleidosoepe, and
next week probably it will be Russia
