MRS MARY HOLLINGSWORTH
Mrs. Mary A. Hollingsworth,
mother of Mrs. W. G. Clotfelter
of this place, died at the home of
a relative at Stockbridge on last
Sunday, after an illness of only a
few hours. The immediate cause
of her death was heart failure.
Mrs. Hollingsworth’s home was
in Atlanta and she had gone to
Stockbridge to visit relatives, at
which place she sickened and died
before her relatives here could get
the news of her illness.
The remains were brought to
Conyers Monday morning and car¬
ried to Smyrna for interment.
Rev. F. R. Graves, pastor of the
Fourth Presbyterian church in
Atlanta, conducted the funeral ex¬
ercises at Smyrna church.
Mrs. Hollingsworth was a noble
Christian lady and well known to
all of our people. The Banner,
together with a host of friends,
extends sympathy to the bereav¬
ed relatives.
a STARTLING DISCOVERY.
Last Saturday about noon Mr.
Wayman Braswell made a start¬
ling discovery which stirred up our
people with indignation and crea¬
ted quite a lively sensation.
Three pretty little girls were
making their home for a month
with Julia Means, a negro woman
with no good repute, eating, sleep¬
ing and playing with negroes and
associating with hurley regro men
who are noted for their meaness.
This is what Mr. Braswell discov¬
ered and reported to the Mayor %
The marshals w'ere notified and
an investigation soon begun, It
developed that the negro woman
had been cooking for Mrs. Addie
Langdon, at 54 North Forsyth
street, in Atlanta, and by consent
G f the mother the little girls, ages
fi ve , seven and nine, were brought
to Conyers to spend a month with
the negro. They came here last
Friday evening and slept that

state of affairs existed in Conyers,

to the North, from where she
came.
The girls were carried to Atlanta
Saturday night by officer E. A.
Harper and turned over to their
mother, who claims that she is
just from the North and did not
know any better; but she did

It has developed since that the
father is away and that the moth
er sent the children down to Con

old time” with a boarder, but the
good people at this place inter¬
fered and put a halt to part of
the game.

THE BOND ELECTION.
Perhaps the quietest election
ever held in this county was the
bond election held here last Sat¬
urday, only 254 votes being pol¬
led in the county, 96 for bonds,
158 against bonds.
The vote by districts is as fol¬
lows: Town, for bonds 82, against
bonds 68; Honey creek, for bonds
0,against 4; Lorraine,for bonds 10,
against 13; Sheffield, for bonds
4, against 73.
The Ordinary will levy a tax
at an early date sufficient to pay
for the new jail.
CARD OF THANKS.
The family of Mrs. Mary A,
Hollingsworth, deceased, wish
to thank the people of Conyers
and Smyrna community through
your paper for their many acts
of kindness in assisting at the
funeral on Monday, aud especial¬
ly to tbo3e who so kindly sent
their carriages.
Fuch kindnesses from the
people lifts a great burden from
our sorrowing hearts and helps
wonderfully to hear our great
bereavement.
We are grateful for the many
deeds of sympathy and kindness,
and may God bless you all.
