Last Tuesday the negro depart¬
ment of the lunatic asylum at
Milledgeville, in which about 800
inmates were confined, was burn¬
ed down and is a total wreck.
The state, however, has $71,000
insurance on the building and
will not lose move than $25,000 or
$30,000. The officials at the as¬
ylum have had to double up the
inmates in the white department
until other arrangements can be
made, and will not receive any
moro people nntil the building
can be rebuilt.
Mr. C. Y. Sanford, of Macon,
has been employed by the firm of
D. M Almand & Sons to help
straighten out the estate of the
late Mr D. M. Almand. Mr. San
ford’s work will be mostly on the
books and it will require several
weeks to get them in shape for
the administrators of the estate.
Mr: Sanford is an old resident of
our fown and for a number of
years was book keeper for this
firm. We are glad to have this
excellent gentleman with us, evan
if for only a short time.
We got this item from the Sum¬
merville News: Rev. Mr. Eakes,
of Conyers, now in charge of the
Methodist church at Trion, Sum¬
merville and Raccoon, in place of
A. B. Pope, who had to give up
his ministerial labors on account
of ill health. Rev. Mr. Eakes
preached his first sermon at the
Methodist church in this place
last Sunday, and was favorably
received. He is a recent graduate
of Emory college, Oxford, and
his sermon Sunday indicates a fu
tme ministerial career of great
usefulness.
The many friends of Mr. Lee
Maddox will be pained to learn
that he has been adjudged insane
and sent to the asylum at Mil¬
ledgeville. M?\ Lee had been
very sick of fever for several days
and lost his mind very suddenly
on Saturday night, Oct. 30th. He
was adjudged insane before Judge
Helms on last Friday and was
carried to the asylum on Satur¬
day. It is hoped by all that his
affliction will not prove perma
nent and that he will soon be able
to come back to his wife and
friends. Mr. Lee has been mar¬
ried only about ten months and
this affliction fails quite heavily
on his young wife, who has the
hearty sympathy of the Banner
and of the people generally.

and whereas we feel true to the
friendship created during his
short stay with ns as an endeared

Resolved.—That we, the mem

and care of whom we must sill
yield. We do cause these resolu¬
tions to be spread upon the min¬

Whereas, we the members of

M., recognizing the infinite wis¬
dom, love and unerring decrees of
God, the Grand Master of the U
niverse, and believing that by his
edict our beloved friend and bro¬

from labor to rest, and
Whereas, by his daily walk and
upright demeanor toward us as
brothers and with all mankind
his memory has been grafted
deeply in our affections.
His character as a man and a
mason was such to win our esteem
and furnish us an example in his
life deserving emulation, therefore
be it resolved,
1st. That we the members of
this Lodge deeply regret the un
timely death of our friend and
brother.
2nd. Be it resolved that in his
death, our Lodge not only loses a
faithful and true brother, one ev
er ready to do his duty as a man
or a mason, always ready to do a
charitable act and to spread the
cement of brotherly love wherever
discord and disagreement might
exist, the community at large
looses one of its best and most
useful citizens.
3rd. That we extend the be¬
reaved family our deepest and sh¬
eerest sympathy and condolence.

a copy of these resolutions be sent
to the grief stricken family and
that each of the city papers be re¬
quested to publish them.

Dear Banner.—S oim-thimr o
ver four years ago, I met Elder

gentleman of your city, who did
me the honor qf asking an ar’iclc

and from that, day to this you
have made me regular visits that
I have appreciated beyond meas

I have always found your edi¬

I have found you pointed, el< 1- 1

qualities an editor should possess.
Since I last had the honor of
appearing in your columns wit h a
few lines, I have witnessed some
very sad scenes and a few pleasant
ones. T have witnessed the bur¬

in so many ways in this the

their noble work has been finished
reach a happy home in Heaven.
