HE A I).
She may stand on the curb
With a pretty red fan,
And flirt till she s tired
With a robby young man—•
This is naughty.
She may clean up the house,
Or bake a nice pie,
And sing to the baby
41 When the Clouds Boll By—”
This is rough.
She may flirt till she's old,
S le may work till she’s de d,
She may live an old maid,
Or be wooed, won and wed—
This is true.
A movement is on foot to organize a
building and loan association in Tlio

T lomasville proposes to have a new
165 room hotel by the 1st. of January
1884.

Atlanta^ is beginning to talk again of
her proposed canal. With the well
known enterptise of her people, and con¬
sidering the vast importance of a canal
to ihe city, it is astonishing that the
work has been so long deferred.

THE NEW DEFABTUr.E.
Since the Rev. Atticus G. Ilaygood
has started his sickening and disgusting
.in gr > loving-dogma he bids fair to de
feat tl«j verv object lie espou, es—the ed¬
ucation and elevation of tlie black race
in the south. From one end of Georgia
to the other utterances have aroes d
the press and the people, and public sen¬
timent has certainly undergone a revo"
lntiouizing change on this subject, In
fact few of the tax payers of Georgia had
considered how much of their hard earn
ings were annually squandered on negro
education ; but since Dr. Haygood has
opened the issue it is all made plain. To
say that the people are outraged and in¬
dignant but faintly expresses their per
timents. One thing certain—net anolher
dollar will ever be given by Georgia to
public education so long as such an nne
qual apportionment of the funds is made
The idea of one class dra wing from the
treasury nearly all that they pay in to
the support of the state government is
enough to astound the tax payers. While
poor but honest white men, w ho fee! the
responsibility of making a support
on them, must keep their children at
home to work and allow them to grow
up in ignorance, the negro children are
trotted off every morning to school and
their expenses paid by the
Clarasville Advertiser.
LOOK I
TO OUR CUSTOMERS FRIENDS AND
THE PUBLIC
We take this method of informing
you that our terms will be CASH
from OCTOBER 1st. up to January 1 st,
1884. As we have been doing a heavy
time business, we are compelled to
have one fourth of the year to close
up our books. We hope none of our
friends will ask ns to vary from the cash
system during the short time we ask
for. We have done all we could to
accommodate our customers for the past
nine months. We saw sixty days ago
that the prospects were very gloomy
but still we kept our banners unfurl
ed, our doors , open, our stock filled up,
and continued to let our customers have
goods on time. IVe have never turn¬
ed any one off that we promised to
run. We cordially ask you to call and
see us when in need of goods, as we are
determined to sell extremely LOW
FOR THE CASH We also ask all
who owe ns any, either on note or ac¬
counts, to please ca 1 and settle as we
are compelled to have money to pav our
debts and to run our business, and to
enable us to sell on time anotbei
year. So please let ns have a pai t of
your first cotton. Remember that
prompt pay makes good credit and
eeeures goods at the lowest prices. Please
help us now and we will help you after
v while Trusting we will not be misun
ier stood, we remain,
Your Friends,
