THE RED BANDANA!
FOR PRESIDENT,
GROVER CLEVELAND
of New York.
For Vice-President.
ALELN G. THURMAN,
of Ohio.
For Congressman,
JOHN D. STEWART.
of Griffin,
For Governor,
JOHN B. GORDON.
For Representative:
A C M’CALLA.
Hon. George H. Jones of Nor
cross has been selected by Gwinnett
county as its choice for senator,
and as Henry and DeKalb concede
the nomination to Gwinnett, he will
be the next senator.
Hon. James H. Blount of Macon
was nominated by acclamation for
his ninth term in congress on
Thursday last. That was quite
complimentary to Mr. Blount, and
shows how the people appreciate an
able and efficient representative.
Edgar G. Simmons and Wright
Brady were nominated on last Sat¬
urday in Sumter county for the
house. This means the re-intro¬
duction of the Brady bill and an¬
other fight on the present form of
guano notes.
-‘The export trade of the United
States,” says the Boston Herald,
“gives employment to more Ameri¬
cans than at present find work in
all of flic protected industries of
the United States.
Hon. Rutherford B. Hayes of
Ohio has been quite a big man in
Boston the past few days. He is a
gentleman whose place in our his¬
tory was well defined by Bob Inger.
poll as that of “the only President
who went into the White House by
one majority and came out of it
unanimously.
Gen. Beauregard has resigned the
office of commissioner of public
works, to which he was recently
elected in New Orleans. The con¬
dition of his health is the reason
assigned. The general is still
strong enough to whirl the big
wheel of the Louisiana lottery and
to draw his $1,000 per month.
It is all bosh about the alleged
descent of General Harrison from
the king-killer, fhe early Harri¬
sons of Virginia were all respectable
gentlemen. John Adams describ¬
ed one of them as “luxurious and
heavy,” and if this does not estab¬
lish the claims of the Harrisons to
genuine aristocricy it is useless to
talk about the matter.
Graham and Peek’s Cards
I desire to say that a letter circu¬
lated denouncing Col. Peek in the
late canvass with my name signed
to it, was circulated without my
knowledge or consent and I with¬
draw all denuciatory language used
in said letter against Col. Peek.
J. B, Graham,
July 31, 18S8.
Mr. Graham says that certain
statements came to him during his
canvass purporting to be circulated
by me and calculated to injure him.
Said reports were without founda¬
tion. and if used to his injury I very
much regret it. W. L, Peek.
