COL. HULSEY
■
Hon. Wm. H. Hulsey is now
in the race for congress and the
indications are that he will be
i one of the foremost. He is able
and very popular.
In speaking of the political
situation he says: “ I look upon
the political situation in this
district and perhaps in others of
the state as grave enough to
elicit the attention and action
of every true democrat in the
state. I am not an alarmist
but take warning in time, and
believe active work is the best
thing to do. I have been over
the district enough to learn
that the advocates of the third
party are active in deceiving
and misleading the people, ma¬
ny of whom I am induced to
believe if the truth were placed
before them would not hesitate
to touch elbows with his neigh¬
bor in the great democratic col¬
umn. ”
IS THIS I AIR?
Atlanta Constitution.
The county democratic com
mittee has fixed Tuesday the
26th of July as the date on
which * the democrats of this
county are to signify their pref¬
erence of the congressional can¬
didates from this district.
Until yesterday there were
but two candidates—the pres¬
ent encumbent, Colonel Living¬
ston, and Judge Hillier; now,
there’s Colonel Hulsey.
The former is now in Wasli
ington attending to his duties
and it will of course be impos¬
sible for him to make anything
like a canvas in this county by
which to present his cause to the
voters. He asked that a rea¬
sonable time be given after the
odjournuient of congress, which
will probably occur by the first
of August.
In asking for bread, he has
been given a stone.
Fulton county will act on the
26 of this month. Livingston
is m Washington, and is there
fore cut off unless he deserts
his post.
This may be good politics—it
may be reasonable—it may be
fair— it may be just; but if this
action possesses any of these
virtues, we do not believe it.
look where it leads.
The following is a speech of a Mr.
Cox, in Fayetteville, in leply to a
Milner who spoke for democracy.
