A Pleasant Meeting of the
Conyers Literary Club.
There was a very pleasant
meeting of the Literary Club at
Mrs. McNight’s on Friday eve¬
ning, November 25,1892.
Nearly all the members were
present, and we were pleased
to welcome several new ones to
our circle.
The routine business having
been disposed of, the program
for the evening was called, and
the following persons “ Acted
well their parts : ”
Mr. Adair led off in a very
amusing, original essay, which
showed a decided talent for
taking advantage of the small
events ‘ floating on the surface
of the occasion, ’ and making
good local hits.
Some one remarked he
forth manv bright blushes. He
could very ably quote, “
the cap fits, let him wear it.
Miss Brown was very
in her selection—Sam Weller's
Valentine, and the inimitable
Sam could hardly have render¬
ed it more amusingly himself.
Mrs. Shaver, with much pathos,
gave us that touching little
poem of Tennyson’s, In
Childrens Hospital.
After much solicitation
the part of the Club, Mr. Sum¬
mers, kindly, consented to read
his essay on Bachelors, which
was received with much ap¬
plause.
For several reasons part of
the program had to be left out,
but the meeting was declared a
most delightful one, and many
thanks are due to the members
who rendered it such a success.
The committee arranged the
following program for the next
meeting:
Song, by the Club. Essay,
Mr. J. R. Maddox. Duet, Miss
Stansell and Mr. Adair. Story,
Mr. Summers. Recitation, Miss
Thompson. Song, Miss Richards
aud Mr. Helms. Story, Dr. Lee
Reading, Miss Reagan.
The Chib then adjourned to
meet at Mr. B. Reagan’s, Friday
evening, Dec. 9, 1892. at 7:30
o’clock.
