Beautiful Oakland ! How ma¬

Creator, it would seem, for a
place to locate a school; most
historic spot in Conyers, having

who, without exception, have
gone out on the ocean of life to

Conyers is moving upward
The Institute is going to make
$1,000 improvement in their
school building; and Oakland
Seminary is moving to better
equip the school with improv¬
ed seats. Let everybody ,put
their shoulder to the wheel aud
pull together for the upbuilding
of the school interests of the
town and remember that it is a
thousand times easier to tear
down than to build up a town.
Let us all get together and push
forward the work of improve¬
ment.

Gather on my recent blast.
Let your love, oli, friends, support me.
Ilush your sobs and bow your ears,
Listen to the great Hoke’s secrets,
While tbe faithful Dink fiotts hears.
Though my scared and veteran legions
Bear their boasting high no more.
Thougkmy wrecked and scattered allies
Strew the Conyers fatal shore ;
Though no glittering jobs surround me,
Prompt to meet their master’s will.
I must back out like a crawfish ;
But I’m Secretary still.
Let not’Livingstoman minions
Mock the lion thus laid low ;
’Twas no foeman’s hand that felled me
As my good friends all should know:
Ilis who, pillowed on my bosom,
Turned aside from glory’s ray;
His who, drunk with my caresses,
Madly threw my chance away.
Should the Livingstonian rabble
Dare assail n.y fame at Rome,
Where my noble partner, Gordon,
Doesn’t live when he’s at 'home;
Seek him; say the gods bear witness,
All against this Livingston,

Yet shall swipe this son-of-a-gun I
I am busted, Georgia, busted!
Hark, the Livingstonian shout;
They are coming ; quick my powers!
Let me try to knock them out.
Ah, no more midst Georgia Colonels
Shall my soul exulting swell;
But Dink Botts and Dlsmuke love me !

AN OPPORTUNITY.
A few days ago 20,000 grape
baskets wore delivered at one
time from off the cars at Concord,
Pike county, to which place they
had been shipped by an Ohio
basket factory. This great quan¬
tity of baskets had been ordered
by a few fruit men near that little
town, and many more may be
needed to supply the demand for
them in that one county.
Why could not we Southern
people put up factories and sup¬
ply this growing demand for
baskets, crates, etc.? The maples,
elms, poplars and gums that
stow in our swamps in great
quantities, and are good for little
elso, are the very kinds of wood
adopted to this kind of business,
since they are tough and will not
split.
Our people are waking up to
the fact that the fruit business is
a profitable one; and let them
also wake up to the fact that to
manufacture our own baskets,
crates, etc,, would also be a good
and profitable business. Let us
move forward.—Rockdale Banner
BUILDING UP A TOWN.
The editor of the Saud Moun¬
tain Signal gives vent to some
wise saying in the following:
“It is a good deal easier to kill
a town than to build one. It is
easier to have mud and dog fen¬
nel than to have paved streets
and nice side walks. It takes
more people, brains and money to
build a town than it does to kill a
town or keep a town from build¬
ing up. A half dozen old croak¬
ers can sometime do more to re¬
tard the progress of a place than
all the rest of the community
though a hundred times their
number can accomplish in budd¬
ing it up.
Be uuitod. All pull together.
Talk up your (own. Silouce the

Patronize your home merchants,
