NO. 24,
CONGRESSIONAL NOTES.
The race for congress in this
district for next year is going to
be very hot and exciting.
The fight for the Democratic
nomination is going tq.be a bat¬
tle royal—a fight to the death,
and in it will be several of the
strongest politicians we have.
There is talk of of ex-Governor
McDaniell, of Walton, coining
into the race as he did in the
race for governor—a compro¬
mise man. McDaniell has brains
and 'money, two very strong
points, but we do not believe a
compromise man will recieve
any consideration. ■!
Newton county will present
again her great unbeaten thor¬
oughbred, and wo want to say
to you, right now, that lie is in
prime condition 2 and will set a
pace that will soon leave all
the short horses in the rear.
He is bold, strong, aggressive;
he has been a tower of strength
to the Democracy, of late ; he is
equal to any man in tho coun¬
try before the people—they will
hear him and they will follow
him. He who heats Living¬
ston will be the nominee.
# *
DeKalb county will present
Solicitor John S. Candler or
some other good man. John
is a man in touch with the pow¬
ers! that “ do ” things ; he is also
popular with the masses and
has plenty of push and ability.
There are several chances for
John to come in—a few for him
to get left.

Col. Bill Hulsey, of Atlanta;
has announced that he well be
in the race and that ho will
make a light for the nomination
from the word go. Any man
who knows Bill Hulsey wilt not
say he is unfit for the position
of congressman ; no man wop-ld.

cian and a tireless worker.

counties and may Carry .several

We Say So Yet.
Me. Ebitou Hale’s Weekly:—I
notice in your last issue that you
want the school boards in every
county in Georgia to have none but
southern teachers. Do you mean to
say that a man is to be debarred
simply becauso ho is not from tho
South? Progress.
In answer to “ Progress ” wo
will say “ we do ” We believe
there are teachers enough turn¬
ed out by Emory, Mercer, Tho
State University and our other
Georgia- colleges, who are fully
qualified to teach every white
child in our State and teach
them as well as any man from
the North, East or West can do.
We love tho South ; wo love
its institutions, its ruins and its
memories, and we want our
children taught by men who be¬
lieve that'.Jeff Davis was as
a man as Abe Lincoln
and that Robert E. Lee was tho
equal of U. S. Grant.
Help Ye, One Another,
For any community to ho
prosperous all must work for
the good. To work effectively
for the advancement and hap¬
piness of a community, wo
must work for the interest of
each individual.
There are few towns, the in¬
habitants of which, we believe,
have suffered more from petty
jealousies and underhanded
moves than Conyers, This
should not bo so. Men engag¬
ed in professional pursuits
should, of course, do their best
to rise and he successful, hut at
the same time be just and fair
to their brother and do what
they can to assist him also; mer¬
chants should, instead of pull¬
ing against each oilier—the
strong endeavoring to break
down the weak—deal justly and
fairly and come to a worthy
brother’s aid and try to lielp
him over the stream of failure
instead of helping him to sink.
So it should be in every avoca
tion-df life.
We are sorry to say that feeling
of unfair rivalry is very strong
in tho churches whero it should
not ekiff- at all, As it is taught,
oitr churches, are to gather in
the wandering and show them
the-"way! to the great church
eternal hi the I eavens. Then,
-why should one he jealous of the
work of 'another. The Baptist
should rejoice if the Methodist
or the Pesbyterian, the Primi¬
tive, or any other church of
GOd,’should take up a wanderer
and put him in the right road.
So should the others rejoice at
afiy good work done by the
Baptist.
