LAWSON’S INTERVIEW.
The Constitution 6 criticism on
the Journal’s interview with
Judge Lawson is pretty severe,
and withal unjust and unwar
rante 1. Judge Lawson’s views
are clear cut. Ho was asked for
his opinion and he gave it. The
Constitution would create the
impresrion that Judge Lawson
is a Republican today aud Dem¬
ocrat tomorrow—just as conve¬
nience suits. Judge Lawson
stands on the platform of '92,
the same as the Constitution
claims for itself. Judge Lawson
is a man of brains ; brainy suf¬
ficient to express his opinion te
gardless of politicians or that
policy which would ingratiah
himself into the minds of tin
masses, subordinating his own
convictions.
The Constitution recognizing
the superiority of the arguments
coming from a superior mind,
thought to grapple it at once,
that perhaps the influence in cer¬
tain quauera might be check¬
mated. Then after all its criti¬
cism the conclusion is reached
that w hat the Judge saysis “on¬
ly an opinion. Just so—only an
opinion. The same is true of all
tbeUond.ilnt ion’s utterances and
deliverances upon the finance*
by all its correspondents, of al
its great men quoted and inter
viewed. It will be true of the
Griffin convention next week—
speeches and resolutions, forum
lating opinion. This money ques¬
tion is ahstruce, hard to under
stand and not one in five hun¬
dred knows anything about it ;
hence the follv of agitating the
minds of the masses.
Judge Lawson expressed hi
opinion, when asked, in a digni¬
fied, clear cut, and coorteou
style, which can he easily dis¬
covered in contrast with the
et\le which the Constitution
uses in discussing this question
He that reads may see!
Has silver ever been demoni
tized, if so, when ? If so, how
was it—by an act of congress,
or bv depreciation in value in
the monetary world ? Is not the
purchasing power of silver now
just the same as gold? Does
not gold and silver now stand
nearly, if not quite. 16 to 1 ?
Josiali Patterson, of Tenues
68c, made a telling sound money
speech in Augusta last Monday
night. Notwithstanding the rain,
he was greeted by a large au
dience. The speech was plain,
practical and honest, and made
a good Impression.
The letter of Major Bacon for
the. ear of tho Griftiuoonvention,
to meet on the 18th, is a good
one, for himetalism—free coin
age of gold and silver at the ra
tio of 16 to 1. We cant see why
the Democracy cau’t unite on
this.
The Griffin convention next
Thursday will have a large at¬
tendance, and there will doubt
tees be much speaking and

“ANY PORT IN A STORM.”
That’s a good maxim, but it will not
work as a rule in the purchase of a rem¬

nostrums will not effect a cure—in fact
none of them will. Get Dr. Drum¬

cure is certain. One bottle is worth a

reason it is the cheapest when a c re is
wanted. Tho two bottles sent to any

good effect upon their children.”
Dr. G. C. Osgood,
_ Dowell. Mass.
* 4 Castoria is the best remedy for children of
which .1 am acquainted. I hope the day is not
far distant when mothers will consider the
real interest of their children, and use Castoria
instead of the various quack nostrums which
are destroying their loved ones, by forcing
opium, morphine, soothing syrup and other
hurtful agents down their throats, thereby
sending them to premature graves.”
