Tom Watson made a speech
in Lincoln, Neb.) Bryans horn-,
this week. It is said that it is
is thti populist candidate’s in¬
tention to meet Mr. Bryan be¬
fore returning home.
The result in Maine surprised
nobody. It was a foregone
result from the start that no one
thought or cared to change.

The trial of McCullough, the
alleged wife murderer, of Clay
ton county, at Jonesboro
week, attracted wide attention
and filled Jonesboro with peo
ple. 1 he jury failed to reach
a verdict and a mistrial wasde
dared.
Gov. Atkinson is gaining
votes daily and it is largely due
to the unfair methods used to
defeat him. He has succeeded
in nailing every campaigu lie
used against him aud his victo
ry is assured.

There has never been a polit

was more of a triumphal march
than Bryan’s stumping tour.
The-out pouring of the people
cannot be laid down simply to
idle curiosity. It is the deep
interest which the people feel in

The Col- is looking well and is
equal to any emergency
Here is the condition of
die Ga. as described by the
crop service of the weather
Bureau :
Another week of dry and
warm w rather. Cotton is about
four-fifths open, and is being
,,1,-tc.ia,. rapiiii,- as possible
Farmers are neglecting their
corn and other work in order
to got in their cotton. The
bolls are opening prematurely
and must be picked before the
cotton is ruined. Potatoes are
small and very inferior. There
are no turnips. Reas are
scarcely worth gathering. Gar¬
dens are completely ruined,
everything is parched and dried
up. Pastures are very poor,
and stock is showing the effects
of lack of food. .Springs, wells
and streams are drying up.
Owing to protracted drouth,
there will he no top crop of cot
ton this season. Most of the
cr0 p will be picked and
e d during the next two or three
' weeks. Late crops are nearly
j a \i ruined by dry weather. $ 0
small grain can be sown until
; the ground is moistened *suffi
j ciently to allow plowing and
preparation. Some fanners
are gathering their corn, which
in most localities is fair, Fast
ures are about the only things
j that can be benefited by rain.
In g 0 ms localities, the forest
•roes are blighted as if touched
by light frost. Tke outlook i
not at ail encouraging.
