Tfie Time To Do Good,
Tiie time to show yonr good
will and charity towards a man
is when he is struggling against
great, adversities: when every¬
thing seems dark. and' hopeless
and there are many to con¬
demn and few to speak a good
>word in behalf: When misfor¬
tunes pile in his life thick and
fast until his very existence is
ore great struggle against over¬
powering calamities is the time
to speak a friendly word or lend
a helping hand • When every
thing is lovely and nothing
goes wrong when the sky of
life is without a cloud and
everything seems bright and
cheerful and he has nothing to
struggle with, is a time when
man can take care of himself
a nd r.n words of yours can make
him much the happier. The
sunshine that finds . _
single ray of
its way into a dungeon cell is
much more appreciated by the
lonely prisoner than the world
of sunshine is to the man out
side who is ... free to come and . go.

The Needle And The Pin.
A pin and a needle, being
neighbors in a work basket and
both being idle folks, began to
quarrel, as idle folks are apt to
1
do.
••I should like to know,” said
the pint “what you are good
for and how yon expect to
get, through tho world without
a head?”
“What is the use of your
head,” replied the needle sharp
ly, “if you have no eye?”
“ What is the use of an eye, > )
said the pin, ‘if there , is alwajs ,
something in it?”
“i am more active and can
go through more work than
you can,” said the needle.
“Yes, but you will not live
long because you have always
a stitch in your side,” said the
pj n
“You are a poor, crookedcrea
ture,” said the needle,
< t Aud you are so proud that
you cannot oend without
breaking your back.”
i ( I’ll pull your head oil if you
insult me again.”
I’ll pull your eye out if you
touch me. Remember, your
life hangs on a single thread,”
Banl the pin.
While they were thus.convers¬
ing a little gill eoteied and,
undertaking to sew, she pretty
soon br oke off the needle at the
eye, 81 10 then tied the thread
around the neck of the pin, and,
attempted to sew with it, but
•she soon Bulled its head off and
threw it into tho dirt by the
side of the broken needle.
“Well, here we are,” said the
needle.
We have nothing to fight
about now,” said the pin. i I - f
seems misfortune has brought
us to our senses.”
“A pithy we had not come
to them sooner,” said the nee¬

Dr. Stewart’s Idea,
While making a speech in the
State Senate against the crea
non of a board to examine
dentist, Dr. Stewart, Senator
from the Twenty-rev nth dis
stated that in two weeks
he could teach a fourfcecn-year
old boy how to pull teeth. This
averment brought down upon
the Senator’s head the auathe
mas of many learned dentists.
They overshot their target,
Q r Stewart is a witty man and
a most entertaining speaker.
He was jocosely minimizing the
importance of a board to exam¬

which board would have receiv

examined- His effort, was in
behalf ef tho many dentists of
the State. Ho did not ridicule
the great profession, but simp¬
ly referred to the matter of ex¬
tracting teeth.
Dr. Stewart is a learned man
and a skilled poysician, and he
knows something of dentistry.
It was amusing to see how
his critics peppered away at
him .— Walton News,

The increased appropriation
by the Georgia legislature will
doubtless cause an increase of
taxes next year. It is time a
halt was called on taxation. It
is climbing too high. The peo¬

the government they live under
that benefits may be bestowed
on so few. Modern progress is
a good thing, but don’t kill the
