Favor The Lights.
We have talked with many
of our citizens during the week
and not one of them has spok¬
en against the new proposition
while nearly every one of them
are enthusiastic advocates of
electric lights.
It is universally conceded
that such lights would be a
great leap forward in the march
of progress and a convenience
that our people would not think
of parting with when once they
have enjoyed it. VVe learn
that Mr- a. N. Plunket is in¬
vestigating the costs attached
to the establishment of a plant,
and that he may be able to re¬
port, to the next meeting of
the council, upon the matter.
Conyers is not. a cross roads
town but a full grown country
city amply able to tote with
any of her conntry sisters in
the mater of progress and pros¬
perity provided our people will
determine to enter the race
On the other hand we can
throttle public spiritedness and
stand where we are for years
without a particle of advance¬
ment- Conyers w r as just fif¬
teen years longer securing a de¬
pot than she ought to havo been
and we hope that no such delay
will be experienced in the mat¬
ter of electric lights.
This is a project that will
count much for ua if we secure
it right away Delay in doing
the needful is never profitable
and we insist that speedy ac¬
tion obtain‘in this matter at all
hazzards.
Let us be up and doing, not
only for ourselves but for the
town and for all tbe people.
Iatkii.— Since writing the a
bove a Mr, Robertson, of Atlan¬
ta, came down and went before
the mayor and council and
made an explanatory talk con¬
cerning the cost, workings and
maintenance of an electric plant
suitable for our town. This
gentleman estimates such a
plant at about four thousand
dollars.
Just what the next move in
this important matter will be we
are unable to say, but it is to
be earnestly hoped that the ac¬
tion will not be long delayed or
uneeitain.
Conyers is to be envied no little,
B -aides being a charmingand thrifty
little city, it has a class of citizens
wh" a e as pa'riotic a3 they are
progressive. No remarkable ad'
vancemt-nt of other lowne, notiven
the scooping of such a prize as the
Coviogt >a federal building, causes
the Conyers people to lo^e a scin¬
tilla of the love and pride they
cherish for their town. Wallace
Reed, the accomplished water who
is helping to make the E/ecing
Cons'i’.ution so aitracti-e, is a res
ident of Conyers, and one of his re
cent articles discloses the fact
he, too, L inclined to indulge in
panegyrics about his town. With
such people, tbuyers gill h ive easy
growth.— Jonesboro Enterprise.

Hon. A. O. Blalock.
M. Editor: The many friends of
“Bud” Blalock, the brilliant young
statesman from the county of Fayette,
have watched with pride his course in
the lower house.
VVe have known him for year?, and
knowing him as we do, can the more
fully appreciate his manly fight for re¬
trenchment and reform in our State
government.
We know that his efforts are sincere
and honest—no grand-stand play for
notoriety and place; And while he is
anxious for an economical, clean, hon¬
est administration of affairs, he is not
of mean, little or stingy kind.
He is liberal when it is best to be
liberal—he is careful when it is best to
be careful and would use the money of
the State rs he would his own.
He is a man of broad mind; of splen¬
did judge-MENT and backbone enough
to stand by his convictions of right no
matter what the opposition.
If tbe next Governor of Georgia is to
betaken from our young men there is
no one who would fill the place better
for the hard woiked tax-Iurdened peo
pie
ffbe time has come when ihe services
of such men as A, O. Blalock are need¬
ed at the helm of State.

REVERY.
The voice ol the people is the voice of truth, and the best
way to judge a store is by the way it keeps its promises to the
people. We have not climbed into the lap of success by the help
of sensationalism. Our ascendency has been steady 7 , consistent,
natural. Stores don’t grow big by accident, We said seven
years ago “ we will pass the old timer in ten years and have the
best store in the country.” We did it in seven, The big store
has only Summers' record to beat, We must now make this
store the best in the State.—Summers.
