Capt W T Hnson has been on
the sick list for the past few days.

Mr. J E Maddox lost a horse a
boutaweek ago. Diligent inquiry
failed to locate the animal. One
day this week his son was walking
over the plantation and found the
animal in a ditch. It had been
dead for several days when discov¬
ered .
The county Registrars, Messrs Jno.

Adair, are engaged in making out
voting lists of the county. They will
push the work to completion as rap¬
idly as possible.
Mr. Henry Austin, of Atlanta, came
down Thursday and spent a few
hours with relatives and friends. He
is enjoying splendid health and
weighs more than he ever did before.

this county.
Air. and Mrs. Atthur J. Lang¬
ford arrived home last night.
They have had a pleasant stay in

The trouble between these
ties, is of old standing and
came together on the streets with
the above result.
It is said that Mr. Fowler fired
the first shot, which failed to take
effect, and Col. Thomason return¬
ed it the bullet entering the left
breast, glanciug upward, and was
taken out just back of the shoul¬
der.
Both parties are prominent and
the affair is deeply regretted by all.
Colonel Thomason was placed
under a $2000 bond, soon after it
was learned that Mr. Fowler’s con¬
dition was not critical.
Mr. Fowler is doing well and will
soon recover.—Covidgton Enter¬

handsome stocks this season and
goods can be bought in Conyers for
less money than in any other town

Mr. William R. Argo-,
of our fellow townsman, Air. E. J.
Argo, and who some years ago liv¬
ed in this county, died at his home
in Hazlehurst, Ga., last Wednes¬
day.
Messrs, Henry McCalla, Milton
McDonald and Alden Thompson
left this week for Athens where
they will enter the University .
This is the second year for the first
two young men.
The cotton market has been a
little off for the past few days and
just now it is difficult to know
whether it is best to sell or hold
the staple. We think a man is
safe in selling so long as he can
get approximately the value of the
staple.
Their many friends here will re¬
gret to know that Prof, and Airs.
Stark’s little daughter, Willard,
has scarlet fever. They are now
three miles in the country from
Dalton. We hope that others of
the family may not take the dis¬
ease.
Hon. Alonza C Stone, of Wal¬
ton county, nominee of the Demo¬
cratic party for State Senator from
this, the 27th senatorial district,
was here Wednesday. He was in¬
troduced to quite a number of our
people and made a most favorable
impression. He is a representa¬
tive man and will make a splendid
member of tlie upper house.
Marriage.
The marriage of Mr. J F White,
of Greenville, S. C. and Miss Mol.
lie Richards occpred'at the Metho¬
dist parsonage in this city Wed¬
nesday afternoon<lastat7 o’clock.
The ceremony was performed in
the presence of a number of invit¬
ed friends and relatives by Rev. J
L Moon, in an impressive style.
Immediately after tlie ceremony
the bridal party took the 7:20
train for Atlanta and thence to
Greenville. The marriage occur¬
red at the parsonage because of the
presence of scarlet fever at the
home of the bride.
The groom is a splendid gentle¬
man and business man and has
many friends in Georgia as well
as in his native state.
The bride is a young woman
refinement and sweet character
She has hosts of friends here who
deeply regret to lose her to South
Carolina and the fortunate groom,
but who, nevertheless, wish for
her a happy life cf contentment.
The Weekly extends congratu¬
lations and best wishes to the
happy couple.
