The great drawback to the
schools of Rockdale county is that
we have too many schools, Our
school communities are too sub¬
divided. We need two or more
teachers in every school, It is a
physical impossibility foi a teach¬
er to do justice to twenty-five or
thirty recitations every day, it
matters not how great may be his
capacity, 'Where classes are small
it is very difficult to work up in
enthusiasm. Two or more teach
ers in the same school can grade
and divide the work and devote
more time to each class, and hence
make their work ufore thorough.
It is far better lor a child to walk
two miles to a good school than
for it to walk a half mile to a sor
ry one. even if it does have to
wacle through mud occasionally.
Several of our school houses are
already too close to each other
we will nfcver have real good
schools as long as t iese conditions
exist.
