CONYERS, GA„ FRIDAY FEB- 14,
Stray Thouglits.
Far better it is indeed to him who
can ; ana does find n silver lining to
iiio’s clouds.
'f ive greater part of life’s ills are
purely imaginary; this is a truism
which we cannot successfully refute,
when summing up our own personal
experiences.
All along life’s way we are not only
building-castles in the air, but dig
many ugly pits as well, which we arc
mentally worrying to avoid, yet con¬
tinually expecting to fall into.
Lights and shadows, by turn, fall
athwart our path, and if we close out
eyes to the light, and only open them
when in the shadow, lire to us can be
but darkness.
I take it that the vissiou (that
greatest and best gifr, of Jehovah to
man) was given us for seeing and en¬
joying, to their fullest, the xnanv
brigiit beautiful things of earth
which lie has made for our good and
for our pleasure while enroute from
the cradle to the grave, and it is
plainly a sinful perversion of the in¬
tendment of this special, and wis>
endowment, to dwell in dark l'orbod
ings over the adverse happenings of
life.
The continual dropping of the wa¬
ter will eventually wear away the ad
a man i stone, so the habitual fretting
over life’s mishaps, the many uua
voidables of life, will blast the no¬
bler impulses and make us but mere
blots upon the social world, beings
only to be avoided by all the bettei
element of our social world, beings
whose companionship is only to be
endured, never sought after, a worry
to their associates, a burden to all
witl- whom they come in Qontact, liv
ing to no good purpose, shedding no
light along life’s pathway, casting
dismal shadows over ail space, and
withering the bright (lowers of cun
tentment and peace. Truly are tney
the great human Baharas, drinking
up the generous dews of kind heaven
an d giving hack not so much as
tiny sprig of pleasure to theirfellows;
men ay ho seem to live, and yet have
no»i;fe. Possessing a body but no
soul. Avoid tiiein. E.

I have a protouud respect . foi ,
boys. Grimy, ragged, tousled boys
in the street often attract me
strangely. A boy is a man in the

Every man was a boy—it seems
strange, but iti.r-.ly~.
not you like to turn time
ward and see Abraham Lincoln at
12, when he had never worn a pair
of boots?—the lank, lean yellow,
hungry boy, hungry for love, hun
grv for learning, tramping off

ing it out crouching before the
glare of the burning logs.
Then there was that corsican

ten years old, who was thin and

We have several teachers in
county who manifest great
in the appearvuce of their school
houses. These teachers have
vvalisof their school rooms
ed with pictures, rnapq etc. They
keep) the school room floors clean,
the heaters polished and the tchool
yards nicely swept. They
ou their pupils keeping their per¬
son;- cleanly, their hair brushed,
their clothing neat. We can point
with pride to several schools in
our county conducted on this high
plane. In these schools the chil¬
dren, aa a rule, wear smiles upon
their faces and seem to carry sun¬
shine in their hearts and to be
making nice progress in their stud
lea. We find that very few of our
loach-Vi resort to force to* com
maru 1 obedience and respect from
G eh* pupils. It is very seldom
that we see upon any of our teach¬
er’s desk a svilch whose small end
has been worn to a frazile upon
some rebellious urchin’s back.
Most all of our teachers have
taught their pupils to sing, and
we hope to see this feature of
scho< 1 work m -ro fully developed.
