J.J. Floyd died at his residence in

74th year of his age. Judge Floyd

and as a lawyer he stood at the head
of the profession. In his death New -
ton county and Georgia sustains
irreparable loss, and Flint Circuit one
of its brightest legal minds.

I have, therefore, thought proper to
issue this my Proclamation, ordering
that an election be held on Tuesday,
tne 24th day of April, 1883, in the
Siate for Governor of Georgia, to fill
the vacancy in said office occasioned
by the death of the lion. Alexander
H. Stephens.
And Ido further order that the Gen
eral Assembly of Georgia convene in
extra session on Wednesday, the 0)1 9th
day of May, 1883, at' ho Capitol in Atl¬
anta, to declare the result of said
election, or elect a Governor in ease
