The 2014 Queen Stephanie Colwell did the honors. Poland is the daughter of Brad (looking on) and Amy Poland. (Photo/Kim Holderfield) County hikes taxes 10 percent BY RICHARD DUMAS forsyth@mymcr.net Monroe County Commissioners on Thursday approved the county’s biggest tax hike in a decade. Commissioners voted 3-1 to raise property taxes by one mill in 2015 from last year’s figure of 9.831 mills to 10.831 mills, an increase of just, over 10 percent. One mill equates to about $1.3 million in property taxes.
