\'e\v York, Nov. 25.— I The mainte
nance of the minimum discount rate
j v the Bank of England, the lack of
. prehension as to the demand money
r , ,-itet here and evidence of steady
improvement in industrial circles were
rinnng the contributing factors to to
day's strong and active stock market.
United States Steel issues were the
leaders, the preferred and common
shares together with the sinking fund
bonds moving to new high records for
the present movement. The contin
ued absorption of these bonds at the
higher level was in excess of $7,000,000
f ,nd was assumed to be for Investment
account.
After an irregular opening, prices
for a number of active issues, chiefly
Amalgamated Copper, Sugar and Pa

result, it seemed of market manipula

noon a number of specialties partici
pating in the improvement. Save for
some moments of hesitation the mar
ket heid strong throughout the after
noon.
I.nion Pacific Lnder Pressure.
Heavy buying of Reading, attributed
to Philadelphia demand, stimulated
buying in the other coalers. The most
marked exception to the general rise
evas Union Pacific, which was under
pressure all day, and made a net frac
tional decline. Transactions in the
steel shares, which made net gains of
I'tfi 4t4 per cent, for the common and
