New York, Dec. 19.—The stock mar

There was a brief recovery in the
early dealings from the decline which
was in force when the market closed
on Saturday, but fresh eccentricity on
the part of Amalgamated Copper was
the signal for a subsidence of interest,
and a sinking of prices as on Satur

The advance which was interrupted,
by the intimidating effect of the break
in Amalgamated Copper was not re

afterwards, although the copper stock
itself steadied and became quiet with
out further disturbing manifestations.
Steel Led Rise.
The rise was led most conspicuously
by the United States Steel stocks and
many reports were placed in circula
tion of the prosperous condition of the
affairs of the corporation. The Penn

its almost invariable response to news
of steel trade conditions, and to re

DltY GOODS MARKET.
New York, Dec. 19.—The dry goods
market continues firm and little con
cession is being made. Buyers are
operating in a very conservative way
and are evidently waiting for a further

probable. Fruit of the loom bleached

LAURENS FARMERS TO
HOLD COTTON.
Will Wait fop lp,Cents and Urge 25
Pep Cent. Reduction In Acrruge.
Dublin, Ga., Dec. 19. —The farmers of
Laurens county have decided to hold
their cotton for 10 cents. A commit
tee has been named to get the farmers
now holding cotton to demand 10 cents,
and not to sell until that price has
been reached and to induce the farm
ers to reduce their cotton acreage at
least 25 per cent.
There are now being held by the
farmers and others of Laurens coun
ty at least 8,000 bales of cotton. Those
who own the cotton feel sure that
the price will advance, and they do
not intend parting with their cotton
for a less price than 10 cents. Of
course some of the smaller farmers
may sell at a lesser price, but those
who are now holding cotton are able
to hold it.
