Grf.f.nsborqugh, (Ala.) Sept. 12. The Cotton Crop. —We mentioned week* ago, in a notice we took of the of cotton, that it would become third of last year. The worm has prevailed , ‘ time to so great an extent, tliat \v are to*believe, that it will not exceed last year. This appears now to be pression of the planters, so far as we 1 to learn. - NEW ORLEANS, Sept^H Blockade of Vera Cruz.—Through vna papers, we learn that on the 22d ult., Cruz was blockaded by the Texian squadron. The Mexican Government Journal acknowledjS es that General Reyes was obliged to retreat beforjj the Federalists, and the Laredo and Meir were] captured. From Mexico. —Our Havana papers contain ex tracts from Mexican Gazettes, from which we make the following extracts: VERA CRUZ, Aug. 21. There are three Texian vessels of war lying oft’ our port, at the distance of a few leagues. We arc, in a manner blockaded by the Texians: and, although they may capture vessels, yet being no more.than pirates, they will not be permitted with impunity, to molest the vessels of other nations. This, we confess, makes our blood boil; we cannot view it with serenity ; it makes us desperate; and in the midst of a useless wrath, we are compelled to acknowledge the cause of our present humilia ting situation. A banditti insult a nation ; which nation has this day the elements to place it in the foremost rank of those discovered by Christopher Columbus. Who on making such a reftectien, is not saddened ? is not enraged ? is not ashamed ? or who is not warmed with the fire of patriotism to punish such temerity ? The Diario del Gobierno of Mexico, contains a proclamation to the following effect: That the sth regiment of infantry is extinguished for ever, for their infamous defection on the 15th of July. Ano ther regiment, who took part in the revolution, are served the same way. [This is Almonte’s way of restoring the Constitution of ’2*l.— Bulletin. A Passenger of the Lexington. —The coroner of Smith Town, L. 1., writes that an inquest was held on the 13th imt. on the body of a woman which had drifted ashore, supposed from appearances to have been one of the sufferers at the conilagration ot the Lexington, as the back of her dress was some what burnt, and the muscles on each side of the lace looked as if literally cooked and adhering to the bones, the remaining portion of the bones of the head and face completely denuded. She had on a black silk dress, merino * ape, pink gauze neck handkerchief, black, figured belt, red flannel shirt, black woollen stockings, and slippers. She was recognised from description referred to, to be the wife ol James Bates, of Ahington, Plymouth Cos. Mass., formerly of New Jersey.— jYctc York Cou • ricr. Venezuela. —A geographical survey of the entire territory of Venezuela has just been completed by Col. Codassi, who has been ten years engaged in the task. Ij is found that this republic comprises no less than 35,000 square leagues of territory; the greater portion of which has been hitherto unknown. The results of this important survey are recorded in a map on a very extensive scale and a general atlas, which arc now being printed in Paris by an order of the government of Venezuela, and which will complete the geographical knowledge of this por tion of the continent of soutli America; remarkable alike by the variety and value of its natural pro ductions, by its virgin forests, and its magnificent water courses, amounting to 2,000 in number, and al most all navigable, the greater portion of them being absorbed by the immense Orouoke, which is naviga ble for a distance of more than 1,000 miles from its mouth.— Boston Journal. A supposed Pirate. —Captain Watson, of the ship Roanoke, from Rio Janeiro, arrived at Philadelphia on the 10th iiutant, reports having been boarded on the sth of August, in lat. 10 45 S., lon. 34 sft W , by H. B. M. brig Patridge, from whom he re ceived the following information, which bad been obtained from Pernambuco on the 3d of August:— “ The hark Marv, Captain Clark, from Baltimore, on her passage to Pernambuco, fell in with a sus picious looking vessel in lat. 5 N., lon. 27 11 VV. She was a large herm. brig, painted black, with a narrow red streak, mounting four carrotiades and a pivot gun. She chased the Mary several hours, and fired at her until she hove too, and indeed once afterwards. She hailed in Spanish and broken English, ordering the Mary to take in sails, and upon Captain Clark asking wlmt he wanted, he was told that it was u none of his business.” A ship and a hark from the southward heaving in sight at the same time, caused him to make all sail in an opposite direction, without hoarding the Marv. When first seen, at day light, the stranger had nothing set hut a forc-spencer, hut made all sail in stantly on discovering the bark.”— Boston States man. Mono av, Sept. 23tli. At an extra meeting of the Democratic Republi cans of Washington Ward, held at their Hall, Capt. Edward B. Giliiam, was called to the Chair, and Philip M. Russell, appointed Secretary. The meeting was eloquently addressed by Col. John Mullen, after which he was followed by C. MacAhdkll and P. G. Siiick. The meeting then adjourned. EDWARD B. (iILHAM, Chairman. Philip M.
