Proceeding* of ihc Meeting of the Stockholders of the
Central Roil Road and Banking Company, of
Georgia .
Savannah, Dec. 13th, 1840.
\t a meeting of the Stockholders of the Centrsil Rail Road
j Ranking Company of Georgia, on motion of A-Porter. Esq.,
his Honor the Mayor was called to the chair. Joseph Felt was
uested to act as Secretary. The number ot shares of
Stlk represented was 10,400. The President laid the annual
r port upon the table, and on motion of Dr. J. P. Scriven the
r ful'm” was dispensed with as the same had been published.
\ communication from a Committee of the Board of Direc
r of the Augusta and Waynesboro’ Rail Bond was read. —
Inasmuch as there was not a quorum present, it was on motion
jaid on the table for the present.
The president introduced to the meeting Major Howard, of
C dumbus, who addressed the meeting on the subject of a
Rail Road connection with Columbus ; whereupon, on motion
of Major Porter,
Resolved That we concur with the Directors in their favor
hlc notice of the elTorrs of the people of Columbus to form a
Rail Road connection with this city, via Fort Valley.
Resolved , That the thanks of this meeting are due to Major
j II Howard, for his able remarks on the subject of the con
nection.
Resolved , That we are warranted in saying, that the Mus
cogee Company must and will be met by the various parties in
interest, at a point fifty miles east of Columbus, in good time
to receive and transport their first cars to the seaport ol their
own State.
On motion of Major Porter,
Resolved, That the very clear and gratifying report ot the
President and Superintendent of the Central Rail Road, (show
in<r its profits and expenses, and its increasing prosperity and
advantages to the business and trade of Savannah, and its prof
it to the Stockholders at present,) deserves our unqualified
thanks to the officers of said Company, for their untiring in
dustry, zeal, and ability, in forwarding the interests of the said
Company generally.
On motion of Joseph S. Fay, Esq.,
Resolved , That this Convention be now adjourned, and that
the next annual Convention shall be on the Thursday after the
gecond Monday of December next.

the atmosphere, this coating becomes a peifect slate or coat of mail
protecting whatever is covered from the action of the weather and

It is a mineral substance, and lias been found upon anaiyzatuin
by Dr. Chilton, of the city of New Yoik. to consist ot larger pr<-
pottions of Silicia Alumine, Plot. Oxide of lion and Magnesia,
with lesser of Lime and Carbon. Ir is used extensively for cover
ing roofs of either shingles, matched boards, tin, zinc,sheet iron or
thick paper, if yourshinglcs have been on tor years, you have only
to sweep off the moss and lint, with a stiff hioom, and coyer with
two or three good coats, and in a tew months you have a perfect slate
roof, impervious to the action of the weather and fire. 3 here is
nothing equal to it for steamboats and cat-decks, for all kinds of iron,
it form's a coating nearly as hard as the iron itself, and never eleav s
off. It should be used for everything that you wish to piutect lroiu
fire and weather.

Staves, are informed that the preparation required for foreign
export is as follows:

Length, from 42 to 44 inches.
Breadth, not less than 4 or more than ? inches
Thickness, not less than 1 or more than 2} inches on tlie tbincst
part of the thinest edge.
The hack and edge of the Stave should he dressed down to the
same thickness—should have a clear cleft or split, and he Itee Hour
knots, crooks, and worm-holes.
Staves prepared in conformity with this specification will be re
ceived at the full market price during the ensuing autumn and
winter. Present value, thirty-five dollars per one thousand pieces.
