A F RIE ND OF TII EFAM IL Y.
SATURDAY, JANUARY 12. 1850.
\Ve call the attention of our readers to the notice of the annu
nl meeting of the Port Society, and most heartily commend the
objects for which this society was established, to the good will
and charitable consideration ol the public. It has now reached
its seventh year, which may bo considered a green old ago
cQ-npared with the ephimeral existence of most societies
purely benevolent. It has, we learn struggled through many
pecuniary difficulties in order to support a Mariner’s Preacher.
The present incumbent of the Mariner's pulpit has proved
himself every way competent to tho duties of his office, and
rer v acceptable to his seafaring charge. His church now con
gj4s of forty-seven members, principally seamen, who regu
larly commune in ihe Mariner’s church when present in port.
It is a peculiarly edifying sight to see these rough, hardy sons
f t he ocean, surrounding the little pulpit of Father Hutch*
i n(rg a nd gravely and seriously receiving at his hands the sa
cred symbols of salvation. The Church and its Pastor is sup
ported by voluntary contributions. We earnestly invoke the
ivmpfithies of the Christian and the friends of seamen, to be
pres -nt at the annual meeting to be held at the church on
Monday evening next, on which occasion some fine music
will be executed.

The uniform success which lias attended the use of this pre
paration— its salutary efTect—its power to relieve andcu e affec*
lions of the Lungs, have gained for it a celebrity equalled by n >
othei medicine. We offer it to the afflicted with entire confi
dence in its virtues, and the full belief that it will subdue and
remove the severest attacks of disease upon the throat and
Lungs. These results, as they become publicly known, very
naturally attract the attention of medical men and philant l >ro
pists everywhere. What is their opinion of CHERRY PEC
-1 ORAL may be seen in the following :
VALENTINE MOTT, M. D.,
Prof. Surgery Ap'd. College, IViiv York, .says:
“ It uiv s me pleasure to certify the value and efficacy of
Ayer’s 1 HERRY PECTORAL, which 1 consider peculiarly
adapted to cure diseases of the Throat and bungs.”
TIIE lIT. REV. BISHOP FIELD
writes in a letter lo his friend, who was fast sinking under an
affection ol the Lungs:—“ Try the CHERRY PECTORAL,
arid if any medicine can give you relief, with tire blessing of
God that will.”
CHIEF JUSTICE EUSTIS,
of Louisiana, writes “ That a young daughter of his was cured
of several severe attacks of Croup ly ihe ‘ CHE HR Y PECTO
RAL.”
ASTHMA AND BRONCHITIS.
The. Canadian Journal of Medical Science
states, ‘‘That Asthma'and Bronchitis so prevalent in this in
clement climate, lias yielded with surprising rapidity to Ayer’s
CHERRY PECTORAL, and we cannot too strongly recoin
mend this skilful preparation to the Profession and Public gen
erally.”
READ THE EVIDENCE.
Albany, N. Y., April 17, 1848.
Dr. Ayer, Lowell Dear Sir':—l have for years been afflicted
with Asthma in the worst form ; so that I have been obliged to
sleep in my chair for a larger part of the time, being unable to
breathe on my bed. I had tried a great many medicines to no
purpose, until nqy Physician proscribed, as an experiment, your
CHERRY PECTORAL.
At first it seemed to make me worse, hut in less than a week
I began to experience the most gratifying relief from its use;
and now, in four weeks the disease is entirely removed. 1 can
sleep on my bed with comfort, and enjoy a state of health
which I had never expected to enjoy.
