Godey’s Lady’s Book.
We have received from the publishers the
inunry (and specimen) number for 1851,
if this increasingly beautiful and favorite
‘Ugaziue. Great labor and expense have
een bestowed in order to render the Lady’s
took even more attractive and valuable than
arotofore, and the present nnmbar proves
38 effort abundantly successful. A glorious
rstaste, indeed, of goo 1 things to come.—
’twill be seen that mtny of our mist bril
;nt and talented writers are to be found
imong the regular contributors, so that in
point ot literary excellence, every thing may
Inspected. Os the increased beauty and
talus of its plates we cannot speak too high
ly: they are all on steel, and not only very
wperior, but most superbly beautiful. The
Dinner contains six original designs, all
American, which are exceedingly elegant.—
That the work, take it all and in all. posses
ie surpassing merit, its well deserved and
highest encomium. See the Publisher’s
mtto, *• Godey will uot be equalled,” It is
certain that lie will not be surpassed.
rF"The following letter we clip from tho
Rahway (N. J.) Advocate and Register.
SAViX.v.vH, Ga , Nov. 5, 1850.
Dtar Ella:
Two little weeks have just elapsed since
my arrival in this lan 1 of sunshine and flow
er*. We left Mew York in the new steam
er Florida, on Saturday, Oct. 19th, nt 4 P.
M., and arrived hero the following Tuesday
k 9 A. M., making a very pleasant and ex
peditious passage, barring the sea-sickness,
•rom which you know Alle and [ suffer so
ouch. The only relief I received from
‘hi* incessant nausea, was obtained by ap
plying mustard plasters on my breast. 1
®ntion this for your benefit when yon
oke a sea voyage. The accommodations,
the table, &c., are ample and elegant, with
w obliging and gentlemanly Captain. This
r #ute is much less fatigueing than the land
route apd more rapid, and then one can af
:*rd to be sea sick for a day or two, —but I
roust say it is excruciatingly distressing! —
I regretted not being able to go on deck, and
® n j°y the bright, beautiful moonlight we
then had- But let poets sing of water, for
ro* it is sufficiently enchanting and inspiring
#B terra firma, especially in such an Eden
*P°tasthis, whence I date my letter. It is
n °w stilly night, and warm as ours in Au
gust. The moon has not yet risen, but the
linking stars are looking lovingly down,
•Penking “peace on E irth, good will from
Heaven ; ” and they are looking just as smi
hngly upon you, only so coldly.
Let me bring you here Ella, clairvoyantly.
-'•uw take a peep in the court-yard and gar
den. Do you see what a quantity of roses and
dowere of every hue flowering ? and the vari
et7 of evergreen trees ? The graceful cone
•lisped Bittesporem, the Spice and Oak ; the
Orange and Lemon, filled with fruit, golden
•nd green, buds and blossoms, like and aged
matron with several generations around her ?
Do you not see the hand writing of the In
finite God in all these ? and do they not ele
vate and refine the soul ? Touching and
affectionate lessons they read us. Soft,
balmy zephyrs are now playing o’er tliese
flowery couches, and come dancing through
my open casement. Who knows but this
B am© breath of Heaven may fan your brow
and whisper something sweet
frona Annie ?
I cannot give you much local news this
time. Savannah is a quiet little city con
trasted with others of greater magnitude.—
Ihe most exciting topic at present is the
“State Rights” question, D.33alution of the
Union, &c.
Dissolve our Union ! Then no more
Will Stars and Stripes so prou Ily soar :
Dissolve our Union ! Then we’ll see
The death-stroke to our Liberty ;
( >h God forbid it ere should sever —
1- niied let it be forever.
Hhe “ broken bone fever” which has been
prevailing here for the last two months, has
r ‘e&rly subsided. Scarcely an inhabitant has
•■taped an attack. It lasts generally about
a week or ten days. Y ou may imagine its
distress from the very name, broken bone.
It has visited all tho Southern cities, and in
some cases has terminated id the bilious
fever. In the year 1827. they say this same
fever provailed here,
I see by the papers Jenny Lind has left
New York for the South. We hope the
Nightingale will soar this way, and let us
mortnls hear how the Angels sing. Her in
spirations must be caught from them, and
her noble acts, speak her uffinity with the
Angels.
Now let me close with an extract from a
letter addressed to me the day I left New
York for this place.
To Anne Lee. on her sailing for Savannah ,
Ocf. 10. 1850.
IMPROMTU, BY COL. J. H. S.
Though distance may sever, thy form shall be nigh.
To sweeten my labors and hallow my rest,
And fancy will give when the tempest is high,
Thy soul-moving accents like tones oftho blest.
And believe me through all the mutations of time,
W liether pleasures invite or sorrows beset me,
Though exiled from thee, in a far distant clime,
I never, no never—will ever forgot thee.
Bon nuit Yours truly.
ANNIE LEE.

SECOND DESPATCH.
New York, Dec. 5.
Further by the Arctic.
Flour and Wheat were unchanged.
Corn had advanced fid.
Provisions remained quiet.
Rice was dull, fine Carolina is quoted at 19s fid,

Sugar was steady.
Coffee was in good demand at very full prices.
Naval Stores were dull, except common Rosin
which appeared in good demand.

The Catholic excitement continues unabated in
London, and great agitation exists in Liverpool,

DIED.
At tho residence of her Father, James
Y r oung, Sen., in Bulloch County, on the
29th November, after an illness of sixteen
days-of Newmonia, Adeline, aged 12 years.
She rests in peaceful slumber, on
Pale wreathes around her thrown ;
Then parents cease to grieve, she's gone
Unto an Angel's home .
That little form so gay with life,
So beautiful and fair :
She was too pure for earthly strife,
Too sweet for earthly care.
God lent her to you but awhile,
T hen bow to his decree,
And know again thoul’t meet her smile.
In long eternity.
She was too fond, too fair, too young,
On earth so long to stay :
Too much of Heaven around her clung,
And God called her away.

Turner’s Compound Fluid Extract of
CONYZA and STILLINGIA.
THIS Preparation is a highly Concentrated
Extract, containing all the Active Medicinal
Properties of the Conyza, (commonly known
as Black Root,) and the Stillingia, or Queen’s
Delight.
These Plants have long since treen used among
our Southern Negroes and in empyrical practice,
with the happiest results, in cases of Chronic
Rheumatism, Ulcers of long standing, and Sec
ondary Syphilis. It is much superior to any pre
parations of Sarsaparilla as an alterative, being
more active and prompt in its operation on the
system. These tacts have induced the subscri
bers to present to the attention of Physicians a
preparation prepared according to strict Chemi
cal and Parmaceutical science, devoid of all
the feculent and inert parts of the root, not doubt
ing that it will supercede the unscientific and
crude preparations hitherto used.
Price —per bottle, or six bottles for $5.
