HIE FBI EM OF THE FAMILY.
SAVA N N AH, JANU a R Y 13,~i85iT
TF* It is with a degree of pleasure that
wo call attention totim Card of Al. A. Reich
in otit c i.u.n is. Mr. we are assured on
consent ra nicil authority, is thoroughly
TorsoJ in Ills profession, an 1 folly capable of
imparting a complete knowledge of music.
The Magnolia.
T.iis beautiful steamer made her appear
ance in our waters on Sunday last, and takes
her place in the Florida line on Tuesday
next. She is almost u fuc simile of the Meta
morn, and it is said will equal her in speed.
May success attend her.
The Steamship Alabama.
This magnificent floating palace arrived on
Tuesday last from New York, and we have
again the pleasure of saying that we have a
weekly communication with New York, by
*e splendid and substantial steamships as are
afloat, and commanded by as skillful and gen
tlemanly uieu as ever trod u plank.
The Morning Nevra
Made its appearance on Wednesday last
much enlarged, and in a beautiful uew diess.
What au extravagant fellow the proprietor
is, every three months he has anew coat;
we rejoice in their prosperity, the world—
our little world Savannah—is large enough
for us all, indeed, the increasing business of
our much loved city, demanded a paper such
as the *• glorious little News” is; but like
nil other envious children when they see their
fellows fine clothes—we feel the inclination to
hrag a little, so we’re going to have anew
suit too, and then you shall see what you
shall see, Mr. News, there now.
Carey’s Daguerrean Gallery.
It is really a pleasure to pass an hour in
Carey’s Gallery, in which is to be seen the
fluent collection of likenesses to be found per
haps in the South, and equal to any in the
Union. Mr. Carey.ranks among the first in
his profession, and our country friends will
be well repaid by a visit to his rooms when
they’ come to the city. Any person with a
little practice can furnish a Daguerreotype,
but it absolutely require is as much skill and
talent to take a good likeness of this kind, as
must be exerted for the execution of a good
portrait. We have seen many carricatures
palmed upon the uninitiated, but a good like
ness is a treasure that no money may pur
chase from us. How often is it after we have
b*t a near aim dear friend, that we would
gi y e hundreds to possess that which might
hnve been obtained for a few dollars. A case
came to our knowledge a short time since, a
gentleman after much persuasiongot his moth
er to sit for a Daguerreotype, which, though
not a very superior one, yet was nevertheless
invaluable as it served to remind him of the
loved original, for but a short period elapsed
alter it was taken, ere she sickened and
flied. In his estimation now, no earthly trea
sure is half so much prized as this little link
between the past and the present. Six or
eight copies have since been taken from this,
lor other members of the family, who. while
the original was with them in health and
vigor, did not think to provide themselves
with such a remembrancer.

The Boston Chronotype.
We received through the Post Office on
Monday last, an abolition paper by the above
title, which we purpose returning by the
next mail to the publisher Elizur Wright.
If Mr. Wright or his co-laborer Mr. Lyaan
der Spooner, will come to the South and see
for themselves the condition of the people
they are so zealously seeking to injure, in
stead of benefiting as they suppose, we haz
aid the assertion, (it either of them are still
in their right minds.) their opinions will un
deigo a change. It they are honest and sin
cere in heart they must love to find out the
ti uth. and will owe us thanks for pointing out
to them, the way to obtain it.

DIED,
IN Savannah, on the 27th of October last,
Mrs. MARY A. KELLY, wife of the late
William M. Kelly, arid daughter of David and
Sarah Hugtienin of St. Luke’s Parish, South
Carolina, aged 53 years.
Siio was tor many years a consistent and
highly esteemed member of the Biptist
Ctmrch, Her remarkable amiability en
dear. 1 her to all her acquaintances. Though
naturally ot a retiring disposition, her sym
pathies with the afflicted, and her great in
terest in every good work, made her a most
valuable friend and a most useful member of
society. Her piety was of the passive char
acter. She rather waited patiently upon the
leadings of Divine Providence, and submit
ted calmly to the dispositions of Divine
Sovereignty, ttian in uldeJ her own will or
desired her own way, Y"et there was choice
in her opinions, and she felt the effects of
circumstances. But her sentiments and
emotions amenable to an abiding sense of
God’s love, caused her to watch the guidance
ot Providence aud regard His dispositions
as best. By this habit there was a serenity
m her mien and a purity in her conversation
that impressed the observer that ha who
lives in tae tear snail enjoy the favor of God.
Her hte was peaceful, a pattern of godli
ness; respected by all who observed her,
esteemed by all wao know tier, and beloved
by all who were related to her. She died us
she hid lived, trusting in God her salvation.
Her departure Iro.n hence is mourned by a
numerous circle of fnen is, and m turned at.
a hearth of which her amiability was the
ornament, her kindness the comfort, and her
affection the attraction. But “ j ßlessed are
the dead which die in the Lord from hence
forth ; yea , saith the Spirit, that they may
rest from their Labors an l their works do
follow them.”

These Plants have long since been used among

more active and prompt in its operation on the
system. These lacts have induced the subscri

preparation prepared according to strict Chemi

the feculent and inert parts of the root, not doubt

crude preparations hitherto used.
