A Three Million-Dollak Eob:
Wall Street.—At About 10 o’clock

as clerk in the Bank of the, State o:
York, was returning from the Cle&rfng-

$3,000,000 worth of checks, and $500 in
bank notes, and when near the intersection
of William and Wall streets, his attention
was attracted by a handsome Portland
sleigh and bay mare which fgped the street,
instead of being drawn up besides the
walk. As the young man Came abreast: the

his hold, and the party, .alter driving

up Pearl street and vanished. Neither the
boy nor any of those who witnessed the
assault can positively identify either tfier
perpetrator of the outrage or his abettors*

Coil.—From present appearances we are
to have plenty of this indispenslble article
in our market this Winter. Tiiere is scarce
ly a day passes that a number of car loads
d'H-s not arrive, and we are pleased to say
most of it now offered for sale, is a first

Akkfjtkd*—The parties charg ed with
an attempt to commit a robbery in this
city on the evening of the 17th instant,
upon the person of Shelton L. Prater, of
Hall couuty. was arrested yesterday by
Captain Ed. Murphy. They were carried
before his Honor, Judge Smith, of the
County Court, ami dealt with according to
the measure of their guilt.
Nearly a Local Item.—This morning
a drayman’s horse got contrary while on
Broad street bridge, turned crosswise on
the same, and cut up other fantastic trick.
This reporter thought he was going to get
t<> record a “runaway,” a “smash up” or a
•terrible catastrophe.” But, alas! ‘*nary”
local! The animal after turning, twisting
and w ireing around for a while, walked off
as gentle as a lamb.
Stolen Goods.—This morning we saw
;« \ igilant policeman on the look out for
-nine stolen goods. The goods in question
i* a piece of country jeans, which lead
been -tolcn from a countryman's wagon
under the following circumstances: A
countryman who came to the city with
-undry articles for sale, took out of his
w agon some butter and eggs, and while ab-
*cnt lor Uic purpose of selling them, some
one went into the wagon and abstracted
a piece of jeans. This will serve as a warn
ing ro our country' friends, and in the fu
ture they will keep at least “oneey'e” upon
their wagons.
Hi xaway.—Our devil Informs us till at a
wagon attached to a pair of mules on Ala
bama street, took fright at Prof. Clack’s
“Silver Band,” which w as playing in front
«>l the United States Hotel, this morning,
and ran off at full speed, breaking things
generally.
Kt.Ee YOUR < KKDIT.—The Philadelphia
Press cites an instance of the excel
lent results of good faitlu which all
financiers would do well to keep in mind.
The bonds of the city of Boston sell
higher in the London market than those
of the great United States. And why?
Because Boston pays her interest in gold
cheerfully, as a matter of justice and honor,
and never tal.^s of liquidating the princi
pal in depreciated currency, or in any
other evasive maaner. Hence she has
rr<i/if. and that credit is worth, as the bro
ker/ table shows,, just twenty cents on the
ilollar in favor of Boston’s rtve-per cent,
bond* against the national six per certs,
in other words, Boston can borrow money
at ten per cent-, off' the face of her obliga
tions. w bile we must submit to a discount
<»i thirty |>er cent- three times as much,
and pay one per cent, additional interest,
l ids is the money value of credit, and it
wi-uid be well if politicians eould remem-
la-r that this actual commercial commodity
can be damaged by words as well as ac
tions.
Fsmalk Si-fuiage in England.—While
we in the United States are talking about

practical triumph In England. A woman,
