mittee of Ways and Means, and now sup
ply some additional particulars. The hill
creels the Internal Revenue Bureau Into a
separate department of the Government
with the present Commissioner at its head,
with a Hilary of *6,000 per annum. Ills
powers are greatly enlarged, and lie is
rendered as far as possible independei t of
the President. The bill also provides for

w hisky at $2. but also taxes retaH sales ol
the same. Tax on all kinds ot chewing
tobacco is f.xed at 40 cents per pound, and
on smoking and other inferior kinds 10
cents. Cigars are all taxed at $10 per
thousand. Petroleum remains at 10 cent*.
Taxes on sales of merchandise and me
chanical productions are one fifth of one
per cent, over $5,000. tSjieeial taxes are
largely increased in many cases, requiring
them to lie paid on many branches of bu-
sincs* heretofore exempt.

vided for in the bill: Retail dealers whose
annual sales exceed $5,000, and not $25,000,
pay $20. Wholesale dealers ($2 for each
$1,000 in excess ol $25,000) whose annual
sales exceed $25,000 $50. Bankers using a
capital of $50,000, or less, ($2 for each $1,000
additional.) $200; Brokers, $100; Commer
cial Brokers, $20; Foreign Commercial
Brokers, *5.000; Custom House Brokers,
$10; Insurance Agents, w houe receipts from
fees and commissions do not exceed $2,000,
$10; exceeding $2,000. $20; Auctioneers, ll
annual, sales do not exceed $10,000, $10; not
exceeding $25,000. $20; exceeding $25,000,
*50; Produce Brokers, whose annual sales

tent Agents, $25: Retail Liquor Dealers,
