A DETECTIVE'S EXPERIENCE.
From the Ptovldenoe Journal.
Neptune is morning star, end ranks first, if
Classified according to priority of appearance,
for he is the first of tlte five morning stars to
make his unseen way above the horizon
rising early in the evening. It way seem
anomalous to call Neptune a morning star
srinte be rises not long after sunset. lint the
outer planets are ranked as morning stars
front conjunction to opposition, the psthon
which Neptune is now traveling. The
shorter the time between the hour of their
rising and the hour of sunset, the nearer they
nre to opposition. It may thus be seen that
Neptune is rapidly approaching this impor
tant point in his course. We shall probably
never know how grand a spectacle this dis
bint orb might present on s nearer approach,
but we may hope that the astronomer is horn
who will discover that be is not the roost
distant ptauet obeying our central sun. The
s tight ascension of Neptune is hit. 15 min., his
declination 10°. 12' north, and his diameter
2.6". Neptune rises on the 1st about 7:50
o'clock in the evening; on the .'list he rises at
6:50 o'clock.
Saturn is morning starand takes the second
rank in the order of riaing. He is now a su
perb object in the eastern sky after I) o'clock,
and cannot fail lo he readily recognized, from
his vicinity to the well-known cluster of the
rictideaand the ruddy Aldebaran, and from
tlie serene aspect he takes on. Fortunately
for the student, an ordinary telescojie will re
veal a portion of the wonders that surround
this luagnificenf planet, unequealed in our
own system, and invisible from every shin
ing star that studs the sky-depths. Naturn
ciwitributes tittle to the incidents of the
month, hut observers will find him a delight
ful objeol for invesligstion as lie draws nearer
la the earth, and rises curlier every night.
The right ascension of Balurn is 4li. 55mln.,
his declination is 20 deg, 1 min., north, ami
his diameter is 18 sec. 2.
Batura rises on the 1st shortly after 8:30
o'clock in the evening; on the 31st, he rises
about 0:30 o'clock.
Man la morning afar, and takes the third
rank in the order of rising until the 19th,
when Jupiter seemingly outstrips him in the
race. For on the loth, at 1 o'clock in the
afternoon, the two planets srein conjunction,
being about one degree apart. Mars being
north. They will be near together when they
rise soon after 11 o'clock on the evening of
the liltb, the ruddy hue of Mara and the
golden tint of Jupiter making an Interesting
contrast, and as clearly determining the in
dividuality of the piauet as tlio features of
tlie well known friends dlstiguish them from
each other.
An event of unusual interest occurs this
month In tho progress of Mars. The con
stellation Cancer or the C'rsb contains a nebu
lous cluster of minute stars known as 1‘arc-
sepc. The cluster is luminous enough to be
distinctly seen by the naked eye on moon-
leas nights. On the 24th, at noonday, blurs
passes into this cluster, and when he rises in
the evening shout 11 o'clock, he witlbouti
interesting oVject for observation, especially
through the telescope. There is no need of
describing lilv position, for lie is then n short
diaiauco noithesst of Jupiter, and can be
easily recognised. On the 31st, at midnight,
Mars is in quadrature with the sun, being tlie
fonrtli to reach this epoch in his course,
Neptune, Saturn and Jupiter, having pre
ceded him. lie is then IX) degrees lu longi
tude west of the sun, rising about midnight
and setting about noonday. It wiii be noticed
how nearly Mara and Jupiter travel in tlie
same path during tlie month, and how closo
they seem together as seen from the earth,
though hundreds of millions of miles away,
and the whole family of the asterlods inter
vene between the outermwt of the inner
lilmiota. The right ascension of Mara is 7h.
42m.; Ills declination is 25 degrees 14 min.
north, and his dlamoter is 7 sec. Mara rises
on the 1st about 11:30 o'clock iu toe evening
on the 31st lie rises at 11 o'clock.
Jupiter Is morning slar, and takes the fourth
rank in tlie order of rising uuiil the ltMi,
when, coming into conjunction witli Mars, he
usurps his place and tukes the third rank
among his peer*, lint lie eicecda every
E land in tlie system mid every star in the
ravens in the surpassing bnuuly of his ap
pearance. Much to the joy of astronomers,
lie will soon be in a position iavurable for
telescopic research. No planet in the solar
family exceeds iu interest the one that holds
a place second only lo the sun in else ami
majesty. The desire to learn something new
concerning our glaut brother increases every
year, ami the constantly recurring nil stmts,
and intensely colored belts are proofs of Jnv
ian activity that whet tlie curiosity of dill,
gent observers. Few aspects of the disc at
the coming opposition will escape the atten
tion of eager watclirre, who make a specialty
of Jovian astronomy. On tlie 27ih, at noon
day, Jupiter ia In quadrature with tiiesuu on
Ilia western side, being the third of the great
planeta to reach this epoch in the synodic
courae. The I’rlnct of l’lHiiets thus evenly
Imlsnccd between conjunction snd opposi
tion, collies beaming above tho horizon be
fore midnight, makes his wav with s brilliant
retinue of shining stars, and reigns os the
brightest of them sli through thestlll watches
of me silent night. The right ascension of
Jupiter is 8 h. 12 in., his declination is 20
deg. 18 m., north, and his diameter 31 sec.
Jupiter rises on tho let about a quarter of au
hour after midnight; on the 31st ho rises at
19:30 o’clock
Uranus is morning star, the fifth in rank In
the order of rising. On the 13th, et 7 o’clock
in the morning ne is in close conjunction
with llela Virgins, bring only & minutes
north of the star, A powerful telescope will
be required to bring to view the near ap
proach of planet and star as they come above
the horixon about 4 o'clock. The right ascen
sion of Uranus is 11 h. 41 uiln.. hit declina
tion is 2 deg. 43 min. north and bis diameter
Is 3 tec. 4. Uranus rises on the 1st about 4:43
o'clock in the morning; on the 31st be rises
at 3 o’clock.
Mercury ia the evening star until the lith,
and morning star for the rrat of the mouth.
On the 4tb, at 9 o'clock in the morning, lie is
in conjunction with Venus, but they are so
near toe sun that the meeting of the inner
planets will not be visible to terrestrial ob
servers. On the tub, at eight o'clock in
the evening, Mercury is in interior conjunc
tion with the tun, passing between the earth
and the great luminary, and reappearing on
his western side as morning star. On the
»tU, at 2 o'clock iu the afternoon, he is in
conjunction with Gauima Virginia,, being
sliuut one degree south of the star. Bright-
eyed observer* may possibly lee the approach
of star and planet on the morning
Of the 20tb, tor the planet is then vis
ible. But the atmospheric condition
must be nearly perfect or the quest
will be In vain. On the 22J, at 10 c'cloct in
the morning, Mercury reaches bis greatest
western elongation, being at that time 18 deg,
22 min. west of the sun. This is the last
faromble time during (he year for seeing
Mm urr as morning star. He rises on the
22-1, «n hour and a half before the sun, and
mu-t be looked for nine degrees uorth of the
sunrise point. He will be visible at that time
arol :iiso several days before and after elonga
tion. The right ascension of Mercury is l.'lh.
Am., bis declination ia 10 deg. 34 min. south,
and his diameter ia 19 see. 8. Mercury acts
on the 1st, a quarter before 6 o'clock in the
evening; on tbe3lst be rlsea at 5:is o’clock in
tbe morning.
Venos is evening star, snd Is the only plan
et on tbe evening roll during tbe entire
month. She might as well be blotted from
tbe sky, as far as terrestial observation l, con
cerned. She Is too near the sun to be of any
account at present. Tho right ascension of
Venos is 12b. 42m. Her declination ia S deg.

Do not forget the number—Oo'A—or hesitate to call on me. Respectfully,

Dr. B. M. Woolley, Atlanta, Ga:
Dear .Sir: I deem it my duty t.o you and tbo suffering Opium Afflicted to sta'e :lmt I am
a perfectly cured man by the use of your most valuable Opium Antidote, I was bourtil by
the Opium Tyrant for nine years, taking at the time I commenced your treatment forty
grains in twenty four hours. I tried every way I could think of to quit it, bat failed. X bad
about given up the idea of ever being cured, but I thank God I learned you c'uld cure,
which I doubted until I commenced tbe use af your medicine. I am nearly iirty.fout years
old and have been afflicted for forty years with Kidney and lover disease. I was recommen
ded io take Opium to deaden the pain.
I commenced to take your Antidote on tho 18th day of October, 1*33, and left it off' the
Ifiih day of March, 1883, a Perfectly Cured Mao. I will say that from the flret day I began
your Antidote I bad no desire for Opium and have never had any, and as soon as the Anti
dote had performed its work I could not take it any longer, aud no oue need have any fear
ot trouble in leaving oil'the Antidote. It is not a substitute, but I have found it tj h -a
perfect cure. Any person desiring further information in regard to my case can address me
at Tyler, Smith county, Texas, and 1 will cheerfully answer all questions. I am non; an o!<l
