RECEIVE THEIR DIPLOMAS
The graduating exercises of the At
lanta Theological Seminary were neld
Thursday night at the Central Con
gregational church.
The following received diplomas: Jo
seph Coffin, Eustls, Kin.: George Wal
lace Gasque, Section, Ala., and Charles
George McKay, Tallahassee, Flo.
The entollment of the Institution for
the past year was fifty-seven, the
greatest since the opening uf the In
stitution.- The work of the past year,
according to the reports of officers,
has been the most satisfactory, and the
seminary Is now In better shape than
ever before.
The trustees are considering the
erection of a new building for tbe semi-
mi ty.
, The faculty was re-elected In en
tirety, the work of Rev. Lyman E.
Hood, president, and his assistants,
being accredited with having made the
Institution what It Is.

been terrorising the neighborhood of
Addison, has been captured by a posse
and landed In the Somerset county Jail.
The man was almost starved, but
fought with knife and club. He Is
thought to be unbalanced.

MAN IS KILLED
BY A “KICKED” CAR
IN COLUMBUS YARD

Columbus, Ga., May 3.—Charles Fos.
ter, aged IS years and married, was run
down by a freight car "kicked” by a
Central switch engine, at 7 o'clock last
night while crossing the track. The
body was drugged several years and
the skull crushed. No other part of his
body was mangled.
Foster's wife was on a visit to rela
tives at Goodwater, Ala. He leaves a
wife, but no children.
The coroner will Investigate the acci
dent.

AT ATHENS COUNCIL
Preparations are now being made In
Athens for the reception of the Red
Men of the state, who will gather there
on May 14 In the twenty-eighth Great
Sun Council Are. At the same time the
Past Sachem Association, of which
James L. Mayson Is president, will hold
an annual meeting.
The following tribes In Atlanta will
be fully represented at the big meet
ing: Cherokee, Chippewa, Cnnesauga,
Comanche, Mohawk, Appalacbee, Pow
hatan, Choctaw and Etowah.

MOTHER CHASES
BOLD KIDNAPER
Cleveland, Ohio, May 3^—The disap
pearance of the 3-year-old son of David
Hoenlg has been further mystlfled by
an attempt to kidnap the 3-year-old
daughter of Jacob Vlnchky. The girl
was a companion of the Hoenlg lad,
and was carlred off by a stranger yes
terday morning, while playing In her
front yard. When the child screamed,
the mother gave chase and the man
dropped the girl and disappeared.
Teachers' Examinations.
Applicants for teachers’ places In the
public schools are being examined Fri
day at the Boys’ High School. The ex
amination commenced at noon and It
will be continued Saturday beginning
at 3 o'clock In the morniav.
A mysterious fire nt X o’clock Friday
morning In the Arlington Hotel, at Ma
rietta and Cone ntreet, the second of
similar nature to occur within two
weeks, resulted In Walter Campbell, a
guest, being overcome by smoke, and
tas prompted an Investigation by de
tectives.
An hour and a half after the flames
had been extinguished the Are depart
ment was a again summoned to the
scene, a blaze having been dlscoverd
on the roof. This tiro Is supposed to
have been caused by a hidden spark
from the first blaze. |
Campbell was' removed to the Grady
Hospital end was soon brought around
all right, being able to return to the
hotel an hour later.
The lire originated In a storage room
on the fourth tloor. Campbell was
asleep In the adjoining room, and when
discovered wan almost suffocated. The
remainder of the guests were alt hur
riedly awakened and escaped without
Injury.
The damage done by the blaze waa
small. ,
Series of Fires.
The first of the fires occurred at
night about two weeks ago. At that
time a bed In an unused room on tho
fourth floor was found burning. The
fire department was called out and
quickly extinguished the blaze. After
the llremen had left the scene and the
excitement had subsided, one of the
women guests went up stairs to this
room to see what damage had been
done. To her surprise she discovered
another bed In the same room In flames.
Those tires, closely followed by the
•peculiar blaze of Friday morning, has
caused an Investigation, the hotel peo
ple and detectives being satisfied that
a Are bug Is at work and Is seeking to
destroy the hoteL
Detective Thomas E. Lockhart, of the
city force, has apartments on the sec
ond floor of the hotel and made an In
vestigation Friday morning directly
after the discovery of the Are. The
Are was discovered by Robert Callo
way, who haa a room on the same floor
as Detective Lockhart. Mr. Calloway
